This year, the 2024 Hyundai Kona gets a new look, with architecture based on its electric alter-ego, the Kona EV (reviewed separately). Like its predecessor, the new Kona packs a lot of value into a little SUV, all backed by a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty.
Unlike some rivals, the Kona offers two engine options. The SE and SEL trims get a fuel-efficient 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine rated at a modest 147 horsepower. Move to the Limited and N Line, and you’ll get a turbocharged 1.6-liter 4-cylinder good for 190 hp.
All-wheel drive (AWD) is available across the lineup. No word yet if the sporty Kona N will return, but we’ll keep you updated.
The Kona is a strong performer against rivals like the Honda HR-V, Chevrolet Trailblazer, and Subaru Crosstrek. While its fuel economy isn’t the best in class, figures expected in the mid-30 mpg range are more than acceptable.

What’s New:
The 2024 Hyundai Kona is new from the bottom up. It’s nearly six inches longer than the 2023 model, creating more rear-seat legroom and cargo space. Updated engines, better safety tech, and more features make the new Kona an even more formidable opponent.
Our Recommendation:
The Kona SEL with the Convenience Package is our pick. However, if power for passing and merging is a priority, get the N Line or Limited.

2024 Hyundai Kona SE: $24,100 (FWD), $25,600 (AWD)
The most basic Kona is the SE. It comes standard with a host of safety and driver-assist systems, including forward collision avoidance with pedestrian and cyclist detection, automatic emergency braking, a blind-spot monitor, rear cross-traffic detection, lane-departure warning, and lane-keeping assist.
Additional assists include automatic high-beam headlights, a driver attention monitor, a rearview camera, Safe Exit Warning (warns exiting passengers of danger from approaching traffic), and a rear seat reminder system that prompts the driver to check the back seat for kids or pets before exiting.
Intelligent Speed Limit Assist displays the posted speed limit in the instrument cluster.
The 2024 Hyundai SE rides on 17-inch alloy wheels and features an electronic parking brake, auto on/off LED headlights, a rear spoiler, proximity keyless entry with push-button start, and remote start via a button on the fob.
The clean and modern SE cabin is a delight. It features a 4.2-inch color multi-information display, a tilt/telescoping steering wheel with haptic control, a driver’s auto-down power window, and cloth upholstery covering manually adjustable front seats and reclining 60/40-split folding rear seats.
SE amenities include air conditioning, cruise control, illuminated vanity mirrors on sliding sun visors, a rear defroster, and variable intermittent wipers.
The substantial 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen seems out of place in an entry-level car, and we welcome it. It attaches to a 6-speaker AM/FM/HD Radio receiver with access to SiriusXM satellite radio. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity are also onboard, as are Hyundai’s Bluelink-connected services.
New this year, Hyundai extends the Bluelink trial period from three years to indefinite, depending on your network availability.
The SE has one USB-C data port, three USB-C charge ports, and one 12-volt outlet.
Powering the Kona SE is a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder rated at 147 hp. It’s paired with continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) with a manual shift mode.
Optional AWD adds $1,500 to the bottom line but brings a more substantial independent rear suspension design and Snow Mode for the Drive Mode Select system.
With the $1,335 destination fee, the 2024 Hyundai Kona SE costs $25,435. On a 60-month loan with 5% APR financing and $0 down, the monthly payment comes to $480. See 2024 Hyundai Kona SE models for sale near you
2024 Hyundai Kona SE includes:
- Blind-spot monitor – Alerts the driver to cars riding in the adjacent lane. When backing up, the rear cross-traffic alert does the same for cars about to pass behind the Kona.
- Wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto – Allows wireless streaming from a smartphone, giving access to your maps, apps, music, and messages.
- Proximity keyless entry – With the key fob in your pocket, you need only touch the door handle to unlock the Kona.
2024 Hyundai Kona SEL: $25,450 (FWD), $26,950 (AWD)
The SEL uses the same engine and transmission as the SE and offers AWD as an option.
Building off the SE’s standard features, the Kona SEL adds 18-inch alloy wheels, aero wiper blades, heated side mirrors with integrated turn signal indicators, rear privacy glass, and roof side rails.
The cabin gets a few significant upgrades, such as an 8-way power driver’s seat with 2-way power lumbar support. The front passenger seat gains manual height adjustment, while back seat passengers get air vents: dual-zone automatic climate control and a solid rear cargo cover complete the SEL enhancements.
Going with the SEL opens the door to a pretty substantial upgrade. For $2,200, SEL buyers can add the Convenience Package, which includes a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, steering-wheel paddle shifters, and a shift-by-wire column-mounted shift lever.
Other features contained in the Convenience Package include heated front seats, a wireless charging pad, LED interior lighting, navigation, dynamic voice recognition, a Wi-Fi hot spot, and Hyundai Digital Key 2 that lets you turn your phone into a key. Unfortunately, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto lose their wireless status but remain part of the infotainment system.
Finally, the package includes several safety improvements. The forward collision warning system upgrades with junction turning, which warns of oncoming cars when turning left across traffic or if said cars are crossing your lane.
Adaptive cruise control with stop/go and Highway Driving Assist semi-autonomous driving aid are also part of the package.
With the $1,335 destination fee, the 2024 Hyundai Kona SEL costs $26,785. On a 60-month loan with 5% APR financing and $0 down, the monthly payment comes to $505. See 2024 Hyundai Kona SEL models for sale near you

2024 Hyundai Kona N Line: $30,650 (FWD), $32,150 (AWD)
The N Line significantly ups the Kona’s sporty quotient with a more powerful 190-hp 1.6-liter turbocharged engine and an 8-speed automatic transmission.
The N Line builds off the SEL with the Convenience Package, adding an expansive power sunroof, 19-inch alloy wheels, N Line exterior styling cues, and body-colored cladding.
Exclusive N Line cloth sport front seats with red accents are perfect when tearing up twisty back roads, while metal sport pedals and a leather-wrapped steering wheel add a racy look.
Music lovers will appreciate the 8-speaker Bose Premium audio system.
Notables: The front-drive N Line gets a tire mobility kit instead of a spare tire. Also, the black-painted roof option is only available in models wearing Atlas White, Ecotronic Gray Pearl, or Ultimate Red Metallic paint.
With the $1,335 destination fee, the 2024 Hyundai Kona N Line costs $31,985. On a 60-month loan with 5% APR financing and $0 down, the monthly payment comes to $604. See 2024 Hyundai Kona N Line models for sale near you

2024 Hyundai Kona Limited: $31,650 (FWD), $33,150 (AWD)
The Limited brings Hyundai’s best luxury and tech touches to the Kona.
Building off the SEL with the Convenience Package, the Limited adds the N Line’s 1.6-liter turbocharged engine and 8-speed automatic transmission.
The Limited gains even more safety systems, starting with Hyundai’s Blind-Spot View Monitor. This clever feature displays on the dash an image of the Kona Limited’s rear 3-quarter blind spot whenever the turn signal is activated.
Parking Distance Warning creates a 360-degree field around the vehicle, warning of obstacles at the Kona’s front, sides, and rear.
A 360-degree Surround View Monitor lets you see all around the vehicle. At the same time, Parking Collision Avoidance Assist can show the driver objects or people behind the car and even activate the brakes if the driver takes no action.
Hyundai’s Remote Smart Parking Assist can automatically pull the Kona from its parking spot while you stand outside the vehicle.
The Limited includes 19-inch wheels, a wide power sunroof, and full-LED daytime running lights and taillights, the Limited gains H-Tex faux leather upholstery, more soft-touch surfaces, and the 8-speaker Bose audio system.
Other Limited features count a hands-free power liftgate, ambient interior lighting, heated and ventilated front seats, and a heated steering wheel.
