2024 Hyundai Santa Fe: Choosing the Right Trim

The all-new 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe looks to win even more fans with a rugged, almost Land Rover-like look, a new engine, more features, and improved safety.

The new Santa Fe is longer than the outgoing model, translating into more interior room and standard 3-row seating. The 2024 Santa Fe offers a choice of five trims: SE, SEL, XRT, Limited, and Calligraphy. A 277-horsepower turbocharged 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine is standard across the lineup, with all-wheel drive (AWD) optional on all but the off-road-oriented XRT, where it comes standard.

With its new shape and size, the 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe directly aims at other 3-row SUVs, such as the Toyota Grand Highlander, Ford Explorer, GMC Acadia, Honda Pilot, and Jeep Grand Cherokee L.

There’s also a hybrid model, which we review separately.

Let’s look at each of the five Hyundai Santa Fe trims and see which works best for you.

What’s New:

The 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe is all-new this year. It grows in size and accommodation, features a new engine, more safety features, and more standard equipment. An improved XRT trim is most intriguing and is aimed at adventurous families who like to wander off the beaten path.

Our Recommendation:

The value leader in the group remains the Santa Fe SEL. Luxury buyers should skip the Limited and go right to the Calligraphy, while adventuresome buyers should look to the XRT.

These are the manufacturer’s suggested retail prices (MSRP) and include the $1,395 factory-to-dealer delivery fee (destination charge). Prices are current at the time of publishing.

2024 Hyundai Santa Fe SE: $35,345

The first of five trims, the SE lets Santa Fe customers get in the door for just a shade over $35,000. That might seem pricey until you look at all that comes standard on the SE.

Along with its 2.5-liter turbocharged engine and 8-speed automatic transmission, the SE features trailer sway control, Drive Mode Select (Normal, Sport, and MyDrive), and is tow-rated up to 3,500 pounds (requires trailer brakes). Front-wheel drive is standard while opting for all-wheel drive (AWD) adds another $1,800 to the bottom line.

In what can only be described as an all-out commitment to safety, Hyundai’s SmartSense suite of driver assistance systems comes standard. The mix includes forward collision avoidance with pedestrian, cyclist, and Junction Turning detections. That last feature, Junction Turning, alerts the driver when making a dangerous left-hand turn across oncoming traffic. There’s also automatic emergency braking, a blind-spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping assist, and front and rear parking sensors.

Additional equipment includes rear occupant alert, automatic high-beam headlights, adaptive cruise control with stop/go, lane-following assist, rear side-impact airbags, a rearview monitor, and Safe Exit Assist, which warns of danger when the driver or passengers are about to open their doors into approaching traffic.

A walk around the new Santa Fe reveals a much more upright design, which allows for taller windows and better visibility. The SE rides on 18-inch alloy wheels and features auto on/off LED headlights, LED taillights, proximity keyless entry, power heated side mirrors, rear privacy glass, 2-speed variable wipers, a rear wiper/washer, and a rear spoiler. A hands-free power liftgate makes loading and unloading much easier, especially when you don’t have a free hand.

Moving to the interior, we find stain-resistant upholstery covering all three rows and seating for seven. The driver’s seat is manually adjustable and includes 2-way lumbar support. The second row features 60/40-split folding and reclining seats, while the third row gets a 50/50 split seat that folds flat, creating a level cargo floor.

Standard amenities include air conditioning, a leather-wrapped tilt/telescoping steering wheel, a 4.2-inch color multi-information display, push-button start, a driver’s auto up/down power window, and LED interior lighting.

On the infotainment front, the SE features a 12.3-inch touchscreen display housing an AM/FM/HD Radio tuner, SiriusXM satellite radio, and rear seat quiet mode that lets you turn off the rear speakers. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also part of the system.

The SE features four high-powered USB charge ports, two up front and two in the second row.

On a 60-month loan at 5% financing and $0 down, the 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe SE monthly payment starts at $667. See 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe SE models for sale near you

2024 Hyundai Santa Fe SE includes:

Adaptive cruise control – Maintains a safe distance between you and the car ahead. It can slow or stop the vehicle as needed, then resume speed.

Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay –This boon for budget buyers eliminates the need for the correct size USB cable and port, not to mention unsightly wires.

Ample driver-assist systems – The SE’s generous standard driver assists are an unexpected bonus.

2024 Hyundai Santa Fe SEL: $37,845

The SEL builds off the SE, bringing a few more creature comforts that make it the value leader of the bunch.

So, what does $2,500 extra get you? To start, you get side mirrors with integrated LED turn signals, roof rails, forward attention warning, and an ultrasonic rear occupant alert system that can detect if a child or pet has been left in the car.

The SEL cabin gains leatherette upholstery, an 8-way power driver’s seat, heated front seats, a panoramic view curved display, a wireless charging pad, dual-zone automatic climate control, third-row air vents, and auto up/down power front windows.

Hyundai Digital Key 2 turns your phone into a key, with excellent features like remote start and the ability to share the key with other phones, granting access to your family and friends.

On a 60-month loan at 5% financing and $0 down, the 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe SEL monthly payment starts at $714. See 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe SEL models for sale near you

2024 Hyundai Santa Fe XRT: $41,995

The XRT rides higher than the rest of the Santa Fe lineup, with an additional inch of ground clearance. It rolls on all-terrain tires surrounding 18-inch dark alloy wheels. Unique exterior styling elements include black mirror caps, a gloss black grille, and matte black exterior trim.

The XRT gains a power sunroof, a 115-volt outlet, C-pillar assist handles, roof rail cross bars, navigation, and navigation-based adaptive cruise control. The Highway Driving Assist semi-autonomous hands-free driving system is also included.

The XRT is tow-rated up to 4,500 pounds.

2024 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited: $44,745

The Limited trim moves the Santa Fe a few clicks closer to the world of luxury SUVs. It, too, builds off the SEL trim but adds several upscale amenities, justifying its significant price increase.

The Limited rides on larger 20-inch wheels and features power-folding side mirrors, rain-sensing wipers, and a dual-pane sunroof.

Additional driver aids include Remote Smart Parking Assist (can pull in or out of a perpendicular parking spot), reverse automatic braking, a Blind-Spot View monitor, a 360-degree Surround View monitor, and side parking sensors.

Moving inside, we find leather upholstery, a Melange microfiber headliner, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, heated rear seats, and an 8-way power passenger seat. The Limited’s driver’s seat gains two-position memory, a power seat cushion extender, and 4-way power lumbar support.

Other upgrades worth mentioning include ambient interior lighting, a 12-speaker Bose audio system, a 12.3-inch LCD instrument cluster, manual sliding rear sunshades, third-row USB ports, fingerprint recognition, and a UV-C sanitizer compartment in the upper glovebox.
