2024 Jeep Wrangler 2-Door and 4-Door: Choosing the Right Trim

The Jeep Wrangler is a well-known entity. With its removable top and doors, rugged design, and tenacious off-road ability, the Wrangler has won a loyal following, so Americans continue to flock to the venerable 4-wheeler.

Formerly called the “Unlimited,” the 4-door Wrangler dominates the 2024 lineup with seven trims. The 2-door Wrangler covers five of those seven trims, giving buyers a broad selection of styles and capabilities.

The Wrangler’s standard 3.6-liter V6 produces good power and torque and comes with a 6-speed manual transmission, which can be swapped out with an 8-speed automatic on the Rubicon trims.

Dish out another $2,000, and you can equip your Wrangler with a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine and 8-speed automatic transmission. The top-line Rubicon 392 has a 470-hp 6.4-liter V8 and 8-speed automatic with manual shift mode.

The plug-in hybrid Jeep Wrangler 4xe gets a separate review.

The 2024 Jeep Wrangler has only one direct competitor: the Ford Bronco. However, other 4-door off-road capable options include the Toyota 4Runner, Jeep Gladiator, and Land Rover Defender.

Prices provided are current at the time of publishing.

What’s New:

The 2024 Jeep Wrangler sees several improvements, starting with standard side-curtain airbags covering the first and second rows and a new 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen. Sport S and higher trims gain forward collision warning and adaptive cruise control with a stop/start feature.

A new Rubicon X trim joins the lineup, while the old Rubicon gains a new Dana 44 full-float rear axle and an available 8,000-pound capacity Warn winch.

The Willys gets larger 33-inch tires and a locking rear differential. New options include 12-way power seats and 10 new wheel designs.

Our Recommendation:

Whether the 2-door or 4-door, the best value among the 2024 Jeep Wrangler models is the Sport S. It offers a solid mix of off-road prowess and convenience features at an affordable price.

2024 Jeep Wrangler Sport: $31,895 (2-door), $35,895 (4-door)

If you fondly remember the classic Jeep CJ, the Sport is the closest thing to rekindling those feelings. It’s intended for those who want the most basic Jeep, one that can get dirty without worry. With the Sport, that means manual crank windows, door locks, and mirrors.

On the plus side, the Sport does come with 2-row side curtain airbags, front and front-seat side-mounted airbags, electronic traction and stability control, electronic roll mitigation, hill start assist, a tire-pressure monitor, and a rear backup camera.

Mechanical features beyond the 3.6-liter V6 and 6-speed manual transmission include a Dana 44 heavy-duty solid rear axle, a 2-speed Command-Trac part-time shift-on-the-fly transfer case, and trailer-sway control.

The Sport rides on 17-inch black steel wheels and features halogen headlights, fog lights, full metal doors, fuel tank and transfer case skid plates, front and rear tow hooks, and the Sunrider soft-top with sliding sunroof feature.

Accommodations include cloth bucket seats with driver’s seat lumbar support, a tilt/telescopic steering wheel, manual air conditioning, removable carpet with floor drain plugs, LED-lit front and rear cup holders, and push-button ignition. The 2-door model includes a fold-and-tumble removable back seat, while the 4-door version gets a 60/40-split folding rear seat.

Amenities include cruise control and the Uconnect 5 infotainment system, which consists of an 8-speaker AM/FM stereo, a 12.3-inch color touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connectivity, Bluetooth, voice activation, and Jeep Connect services.

Powering portable devices won’t be an issue thanks to two USB ports and two 12-volt outlets.

Optional upgrades include the 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine and 8-speed automatic transmission, a 3-piece removable hardtop, and various dealer add-ons.

A Trailer Tow Package adds a 4- and 7-pin wiring harness, auxiliary switches, a 700-amp battery, and a receiver hitch.

Among the many dealer-installed accessories are a Doors-Off Mirror Kit, various hood decals, Dual Door Group with Premium Uppers (includes four half-doors with plastic zip-out windows), and a Sunrider front panel for the hardtop.

We should note that white is the only no-charge paint color. All others add $595 to the Wrangler’s bottom line.

With the $1,795 destination charge, the 2024 Jeep Wrangler 2-Door Sport costs $33,690. On a 60-month loan with 5% financing and $0 down, the monthly payment comes to $636. See 2024 Jeep Wrangler Sport models for sale near you

The Rubicon is the pinnacle of Jeep’s off-road capability. It offers a beefed-up suspension and 4×4 system unavailable on other trims, making it the choice for hard-core off-road enthusiasts.

The Rubicon features the 3.6-liter V6 as standard, but buyers have the option of the 6-speed manual or 8-speed automatic transmission. The 2.0-liter turbo is also available, but only with the 8-speed automatic.

The Rubicon upgrades its off-road chops with a Dana 44 full-float solid rear axle, Dana 44 heavy-duty solid front axle, a 4.10:1 rear axle ratio, electronic front-sway-bar disconnect, Rock-Trac part-time shift-on-the-fly transfer case, and Jeep’s Tru-Lok front and rear differentials that allow the driver to lock both axles via a dash-mounted switch.

  • Rock-crawl capability – The Rubicon’s 4:1 low gear allows a 73.1:1 crawl ratio, permitting the Rubicon to inch its way down steep trails without needing to apply the brakes constantly. Upgrade to the 4.88:1 axle and manual transmission and get a 100:1 crawl ratio.

FAQ

  • What kind of warranty comes with the 2024 Jeep Wrangler?

The 2024 Jeep Wrangler has a 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty and a 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty.

  • How many miles per gallon does the 2024 Jeep Wrangler get?

Opt for the 2.0-liter turbo, and the 4-door Wrangler earns EPA figures of 20 mpg city/20 mpg highway/20 mpg combined. The 2-door Wrangler improves highway fuel economy by one mpg.

The Hemi V8 in the Rubicon 392 gets 13 mpg city/16 mpg highway/14 mpg combined.

The EPA has not released figures for the 3.6-liter V6 with the new stop-start system. We expect them to be close to last year’s figures, so look for figures with the manual transmission of around 17 mpg city/25 mpg highway, while the 8-speed automatic in the Rubicon trims should get around 18 mpg city/23 mpg highway.

  • Which 2024 Jeep Wrangler trim offers the most safety?

In crash testing by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the 4-door Jeep Wrangler Wrangler received the highest score of Good in four out of five crash tests.

Pick the Sport S or a higher trims to get the most safety features. We also think it’s smart to opt for the Safety Group, which includes blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.
