All 2024 Kia Soul models are powered by a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine that sends 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque to the front wheels via a continuously variable automatic transmission. The acceleration won’t blow you away, but you will find that it gets the job done smoothly and unobtrusively.
According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), most 2024 Kia Soul trims are rated at 27 mpg city/33 mpg highway/30 mpg combined. The EX comes in a little higher, at 29 mpg city/35 mpg highway/31 mpg combined.
Competition for the 2024 Kia Soul comes from the likes of the Nissan Kicks, which the EPA tested at 31 mpg city/36 mpg highway/33 mpg combined, and the Hyundai Venue, which returns 29 mpg city/33 mpg highway/31 mpg combined. For the record, these front-wheel-drive competitors have smaller 1.6-liter engines.
What’s New:
The 2024 Kia Soul EX can now be ordered with an EX Designer Package. This $500 package includes 18-inch alloy wheels and an umber-colored interior with seats upholstered in cloth and faux leather.
More significant: All 2024 Kia Soul models equipped with the Smart Key (the S, GT-Line, EX) now have a new sleep mode that activates 40 seconds after locking the vehicle. This is intended to prevent hackers from duplicating the smart key frequency and stealing your car.
Otherwise, Kia’s boxy little runabout, the Soul, returns basically unchanged for the 2024 model year.
Our Recommendation:
We’d go with the Soul EX. It’s loaded with the full Drive Wise safety suite and niceties like heated seats, a larger infotainment touchscreen, and a sunroof, yet it still starts below $25,000.

2024 Kia Soul LX: $19,990
With the Kia Soul LX, you get a lot of car for less than $20,000, including safety systems not typically found in vehicles at this price.
By this, we mean forward-collision avoidance (with pedestrian detection and automatic emergency braking), lane-keeping assist, lane-following assist, lane-departure warning, a driver attention monitor, and automatic high-beam headlights.
Kia’s Drive Mode Select features Eco, Comfort, and Sport modes, which tailor the LX’s throttle, transmission, and steering to your liking. Other welcome standard features on the 2024 Kia Soul LX include digital gauges, 16-inch steel wheels (with full covers), auto-on/off headlights, tinted rear privacy glass, a rear window defroster, power side mirrors, variable intermittent wipers, and a rear wiper/washer.
The Soul provides seating for five, with manual seats upholstered in black or gray woven cloth. The steering wheel tilts and telescopes and the driver’s seat manually adjusts for height to help you find a comfortable seating position. The back seat is a 60/40-split folding bench.
Comfort and convenience items include manual single-zone air conditioning, cruise control, power door locks, keyless entry, power windows with driver’s side one-touch auto-down, a tilt/telescoping steering wheel, and Bluetooth hands-free phone connectivity. We appreciate little features like an overhead sunglass holder, sun visor vanity mirrors, an outside temperature display, front- and rear-door bottle holders, and a trip computer.
Infotainment needs are handled by an 8-inch touchscreen with AM/FM radio, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto compatibility. The 6-speaker audio system features a USB port and an auxiliary jack. The touchscreen also serves as the display for the backup camera.
With the optional Technology Package, you get lane-change assist and 16-inch alloy wheels, plus two safety technologies we highly recommend: blind-spot collision avoidance and rear cross-traffic alert. At $500, the Technology Package is a bargain.

The Kia Soul S costs $2,500 more than the LX but has enough extra features to justify the price increase.
That most notably means 16-inch alloy wheels, an 8-way power driver’s seat, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a 10.25-inch color touchscreen with built-in navigation and SiriusXM satellite radio.
Other standard niceties on the 2024 Kia Soul S include a wireless charging pad, Bluetooth, two USB center console ports, and Kia’s Smart Key proximity key fob. This Smart Key has been improved for 2024 with a sleep mode that activates 40 seconds after locking the vehicle. This is designed to prevent devilish hackers from duplicating the smart key’s frequency and stealing your Soul.
The standard Drive Wise safety system is enhanced on the Kia Soul S with a blind-spot monitor, rear cross-traffic detection, and Lane-Change Assist. After you signal to make a lane change, radar sensors in the Soul’s rear bumper will trigger a warning if there’s already a vehicle in your intended spot.
Also notable: The Kia Soul S is the only trim level for 2024 available in Clear White paint with a Black roof, a $345 option.

2024 Kia Soul S includes:
- 10.25-inch color touchscreen – This larger touchscreen is much appreciated because it’s easier to operate while driving. Features voice-activated GPS navigation, too.
- Rear cross-traffic collision avoidance – Standard on the Soul S, this feature makes it much safer to back out in tight parking lots, applying the brakes if needed to prevent a possible collision with cross traffic.
- Power driver’s seat – With 8-way adjustability, this seat makes it easy to find a comfortable driving position.
2024 Kia Soul GT-Line: $23,590
If you’re looking for the sportiest 2024 Kia Soul, get the GT-Line.
While it has no additional power, the Soul GT-Line benefits from suspension, steering, and wheel/tire upgrades, making it more playful than the other Soul models in the 2024 lineup. The mechanical changes are highlighted by shock absorbers with sandwich valving and 18-inch alloy wheels that wear 235/45R-18 tires (the Soul LX and S both have 205/50R-16 tires).
The Soul GT-Line also looks a bit different, thanks to unique front and rear bumpers, a chrome-tipped center exhaust outlet, and body-color side mirrors that sport gloss-black trim and integrated turn signals.
Inside, the GT-Line cabin gains a leather-wrapped steering wheel, faux-leather cap for its instrument cluster, faux-leather/cloth sport seats, and satin chrome door handles.
There are two option packages for the 2024 Kia Soul GT-Line.
With the GT-Line Designer Package (no charge), you get a Surf Blue Soul with a black roof and a black and white interior, plus a power sunroof with a power sunshade.
With the more extensive $2,400 GT-Line Technology Package, you get a Harman Kardon premium audio system, heated front seats, and multicolor LED speaker lights that pulsate with the music.
More significantly, the Technology Package also brings to the GT-Line Soul navigation-based smart cruise control and forward collision avoidance with cyclist detection and Junction Turning. Also included is Highway Drive Assist, a hands-on system that can control the gas, brakes, and steering while you’re cruising down the highway.
