How do we improve on that which is nearly perfect? If it’s the 2024 Lexus RX SUV, you add a few more features to sweeten the pot, then tack on a new plug-in hybrid (PHEV) model just for good measure. Learn about the other Lexus hybrid and plug-in hybrid models.
The RX is renowned for its high resale value, exceptional reliability record, and exquisite fit and finish. The RX isn’t an enthusiast driver’s SUV, but it strikes a superb balance between comfort and performance, enticing many RX buyers to buy another again and again.
Lexus offers the RX in a range of trims and powertrains, including the hybrid RX 350 and new plug-in hybrid RX 450h+. The F Sport trims do an excellent job scratching the itch for those who like a bit more attitude in their SUV.
As a 5-passenger, 2-row SUV, the RX must contend with the Audi Q5, Cadillac XT5, Lincoln Nautilus, Mercedes-Benz GLE, and a formidable newcomer, the Genesis GV70. But, given the RX’s long history of worry-free ownership, one might argue that the competitor set has to contend with the RX.

What’s New:
The big news for 2024 is the addition of the RX 450h+ plug-in hybrid. The rest of the Lexus RX lineup remains unchanged except for a few upgrades to the standard equipment. Cloudburst Gray is added to the RX paint palette, while Copper Crest can now be applied to the Premium and F Sport Handling grades.
Our Recommendation:
We’d pick a hybrid over a non-hybrid RX due to its better fuel economy and standard all-wheel drive (AWD). We see no downside to choosing the hybrid.
We like the Luxury trim for its features and optional equipment that pamper its occupants to the fullest.

2024 Lexus RX 350: $49,950 (FWD), $51,550 (AWD)
The least-expensive RX 350 comes with all the basic luxury features one might expect from a Lexus, minus a few high-tech options. It appeals to budget-conscious buyers who don’t like a lot of complex technology in their vehicles.
Powering the RX 350 is a 275-horsepower turbocharged 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine connected to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Power flows to the front wheels, but AWD is an option.
Standard on every RX is the Lexus Safety System 3.0+, a comprehensive suite of driver aids that includes adaptive cruise control with curve speed management, forward collision avoidance with pedestrian, bicycle, and motorcycle detection, and intersection assistance that can help avoid collisions with vehicles crossing at an intersection.
Other features include a blind-spot monitor, rear cross-traffic detection, lane-departure warning with steering assist, lane-keeping assist, lane-tracing assist (works when the adaptive cruise control is engaged), automatic high-beam headlights, and traffic sign recognition.
Intuitive Park Assist with Auto Braking is now standard. It uses front and rear parking sensors to warn you when getting too close to an object. It can activate the brakes to help prevent a collision.
The base RX features bi-LED headlights, LED fog lights, 19-inch alloy wheels, rain-sensing wipers, a power liftgate, and heated side mirrors with auto tilt-down in reverse and driver’s side auto-dimming features.
The RX’s doors have electronic latches, meaning you only need to touch the door handle to unlock and open the door. The system includes a safe exit assist that prevents the doors from opening if a bicycle or fast-moving car approaches from the rear.
Should the RX’s battery die, Lexus includes a manual override latch built into the door, so you can still get in or out.
The Premium cabin is put together nicely, touting NuLuxe simulated leather upholstery, 8-way power and heated front seats, and a 40/20/40 split-folding and reclining rear seat.
You’ll also find a power tilt/telescoping steering wheel, Smart Access with push-button start, ambient interior lighting, multi-zone automatic climate control, and a 7-inch digital multi-information instrument cluster configurable to show a variety of readouts.
The standard infotainment system consists of a large 9.8-inch color touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability, voice control, Bluetooth, a 3-month trial subscription to SiriusXM Platinum Plan satellite radio, and access to Lexus Drive Connect apps.
Drive Connect is a subscription-based service that opens the door to cloud-based navigation, destination assistance, and an Intelligent Assistant that responds to questions by speaking the command, “Hey, Lexus.”
RX buyers can also upgrade to a Wi-Fi hotspot and download the Lexus app, providing remote start, vehicle service reminders, and more.
The RX’s 12-speaker premium audio system delivers impressively good sound.
Optional equipment for the RX 350 includes the Cold Area Package (heated wiper de-icers and a heated steering wheel), the Technology Package (wireless phone charger and Digital Key), and a power moonroof.
Digital Key turns your smartphone into a key, which can unlock and start the car from anywhere. You can even text the key to up to seven friends.

- Power side mirrors with tilt down – When the RX is placed in reverse, its side mirrors angle downward and let the driver see objects that might brush against the rear wheels.
- Rain-sensing wipers – Using sensors in the windshield, the RX’s wipers automatically activate when detecting rain, mist, or snow.
2024 Lexus RX 350h: $51,800
