For luxury buyers, the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE SUV remains a top choice. It may not be as new or sleek as some competitors, but its quality, performance, and panache keep it in the running.
The GLE comes in five configurations, including one plug-in hybrid and two high-performance AMG models. As a 5-passenger luxury SUV, the GLE must contend with rivals like the BMW X5, Audi Q5, and all-new Lexus RX. Opting for the available third-row seat means the Genesis GV80 and Volvo XC90 are also fair game.
We like how Mercedes-Benz makes so much content available across the model range. It’s a strategy that lets buyers of the least potent model still access the best features and options.
Mercedes also makes a 4-door coupe version for the GLE, reviewed separately.
What’s New
For 2024, all GLE models come standard with 4Matic all-wheel drive (AWD). The GLE gets a slight exterior refresh, new interior features, and more bells and whistles. A new plug-in hybrid model, dubbed the GLE 450e, joins the lineup.
Our Recommendation
The GLE 450 4Matic is our choice. It’s a luxury SUV with a good kick, decent fuel economy, and a sub-$70,000 price. It also offers silky smooth 6-cylinder power and an impressive list of standard and optional features.

2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE 350 4Matic: $62,650
The entry-level GLE 350 4Matic features a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine and a 48-volt mild hybrid system good for 255 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. It’s paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission and 4Matic AWD, enabling it to bolt from 0 to 60 mph in 7 seconds.
Performance features include adaptive shock absorbers that adjust to varying road surface conditions and Dynamic Select, which features modes that adjust throttle, suspension, transmission shift points, and stability programming.
Safety has long been a hallmark of Mercedes’ design philosophy, so it should come as no surprise the GLE 350 comes standard with advanced driver-assist systems like forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, a blind-spot monitor, rear cross-traffic detection, lane-departure warning, and a 360-degree surround view monitor with a “transparent hood” feature that improves your view.
You’ll also find LED headlights that automatically illuminate or dim their high beams, a parking assistant that can automatically parallel or perpendicular park the GLE, front and rear parking sensors, a system to warn when it’s not safe to exit the vehicle, and another to warn drivers when they’re getting drowsy or showing signs of not paying attention to the road.
The Pre-Safe system can anticipate when a collision or rollover is imminent and react by tightening the seatbelts and closing the windows and sunroof.
The new face of the 2024 Mercedes GLE includes a revised grille, headlights, taillights, and bumpers. LED headlights come standard, as do 19-inch alloy wheels, rain-sensing wipers, a hands-free power liftgate, power-folding and auto-dimming heated side mirrors, and a power sunroof. That’s a lot of standard equipment, some of which is optional on other brands’ entry-level models.
Thanks to the Keyless Go system, you’ll never have to physically handle your key fob to gain access or start your GLE. The fob in our possession lets the vehicle know you’re its rightful owner, unlocking the doors when you touch the handle.
The GLE’s interior upstages its exterior, highlighted by a modern digital screen spanning half the dash. Contained within are a 12.3-inch configurable digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen.
New this year are some styling features lifted from the Maybach GLS SUV, principally a new steering wheel with touch controls in place of buttons and switches, along with some interior color and trim upgrades.
The GLE 350 comes with MB-Tex faux leather upholstery, power front seats with 4-way power lumbar support and memory, heated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a power tilt/telescoping steering column.
A 64-color ambient light show lets you set the mood, with light strips running across the dash, around the center console grips, on the doors, and in the footwells.
As part of the latest MBUX user interface, the infotainment and various vehicle functions can be operated via voice commands. New AI technology even learns as you speak, picking up and remembering natural language commands initiated by saying, “Hey, Mercedes.”
The MBUX infotainment system includes Bluetooth, a center console touchpad, a voice-activated assistant, navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and SiriusXM satellite radio. The Mercedes me phone app allows even more connectivity, featuring remote start, climate settings, and vehicle location.
Charging phones and tablets won’t be an issue thanks to five USB-C ports, including two 100-watt ports in the second row. A wireless charging pad negates the need for wires, which is ideal if your device uses a USB-A port. The GLE also has an adapter cable for connecting old USB devices to the USB-C ports.
For 2024, Mercedes-Benz offers two trim packages for the GLE.
The Exclusive trim adds heated and ventilated front seats, video augmentation for the navigation system, and a 13-speaker Burmester audio system featuring Dolby Atmos, sound personalization, and music streaming.
The Pinnacle trim includes the Exclusive trim features, then adds multicontour massaging front seats with rapid heating, the MBUX interior assistant, a head-up display, heated and cooling cup holders, and an air fragrance system for the climate controls. An Intelligent LED light system allows the headlights to automatically adjust the high beam’s intensity and range, turn in the direction of the steering wheel, and reduce glare when encountering oncoming traffic.
One option worth every penny is the Driver Assistance Package. Highlights include adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go traffic jam assist, Active Lane-Keeping Assist, and Active Lane Change Assist, which can automatically change lanes once the turn signal is activated. Also included is intersection assist (monitors traffic approaching from the left or right when entering an intersection), evasive steering, and Active Speed Limit Assist, which can adjust vehicle speed to the posted limit.
A 3rd-Row Seat Package adds a small but usable third-row seat, two USB-C ports, and a power-adjustable second-row seat with an easy-entry mode that automatically moves the seat forward, easing entry and exit from the third row.
Additional optional equipment includes heated armrests, rear side-impact airbags, a panoramic tilt and slide sunroof, a trailer maneuvering assistant, a heated steering wheel, a heated washer system, 4-zone automatic climate control, and heated rear seats.
GLE owners can upgrade with a video dashcam, power soft-closing doors, illuminated side running boards, leather upholstery in various colors, Nappa leather upholstery, 20- and 21-inch alloy wheels, and two AMG Line styling packages (one interior and one exterior).

2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE 450 4Matic: $69,500
The GLE 450 gets a significant boost in power from a turbocharged 3.0-liter 6-cylinder engine and a 48-volt mild hybrid system. Generating 375 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque, this powertrain delivers the power and towing ability we think most luxury buyers prefer, making GLE 450 our choice as the most desirable model. The GLE 450 can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 5.3 seconds.
Regarding features, the GLE 450 closely mimics the standard content of the GLE 350.
The GLE 450 offers more options, such as the Acoustic Comfort Package, which adds heat- and sound-absorbing laminated windshield and side windows and additional sound insulation in vital interior locations.
GLE 450 buyers can opt for an Airmatic air suspension only when ordering the Pinnacle trim package.
With the $1,150 delivery charge, the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE 450 4Matic costs $70,650. On a 60-month loan at 5% financing and $0 down, the monthly payment comes to $1,333. See 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE 450 models for sale near you
2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE 450 includes:
- More power – The GLE 450’s turbocharged engine delivers more horsepower and torque than the GLE 350 — welcome upgrades when towing, passing, or merging.
- Parking Assistant – The standard parking assistant can determine if there’s adequate room to park in an open space and, if so, steer, brake, and shift for you.
- Available Airmatic suspension – The Airmatic system replaces steel springs with adaptive airbags, creating a more comfortable ride over rough or smooth pavement. It can also raise or lower the vehicle’s height.
2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE 450e 4Matic: $69,500
Though priced identically to the GLE 450, the 450e has a plug-in hybrid powertrain consisting of a turbocharged 2.0-liter gas engine, a 23-kWh battery pack, and an electric motor. The total output reaches 381 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque, and the 0-60 mph time clocks at just 5.8 seconds.
Because it’s a plug-in hybrid, the GLE 450e can travel solely on electric power for short distances. Although Mercedes-Benz has not yet released official estimates, we’re guessing the range will be between 30 and 40 miles.
Standard and optional equipment for the GLE 450e is identical to the GLE 450 with one exception: the optional third-row seat is unavailable.
With the $1,150 delivery charge, the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE 450e 4Matic costs $70,650. On a 60-month loan at 5% financing and $0 down, the monthly payment comes to $1,333. See 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE 450e models for sale near you
2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE 450e includes:
- EV range – Thanks to its 23-kWh battery pack, the GLE 450e can travel short distances solely on EV power. If your daily commute is less than 30 miles round trip, odds are you’ll never have to fill up with gas until you need to travel farther.
- Power seats – The GLE’s power front seats include memory for both driver and passenger, a convenient feature.
- Wireless connectivity – Apple CarPlay and Android Auto can now be accessed without plugging in.
2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE 580 4Matic: $86,700
With its combined system output of 510 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque, the V8-powered GLE 580 delivers performance not far from the pricier AMG models. It can spring to 60 mph in just 4.3 seconds, which is impressively quick for a vehicle of this size and weight.
Building off the GLE 450, the 580 adds Airmatic air suspension, 20-inch AMG alloy wheels, the AMG Line exterior package, leather upholstery, and the Burmester audio system.
A unique option package for the 580 is the Off-Road Engineering Package, which adds additional ground clearance, underbody protection, and an off-road drive mode. The “transparent hood” feature projects a virtual view below the front of the vehicle, a big help when tackling rugged terrain.
With the $1,150 delivery charge, the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE 580 4Matic costs $87,850. On a 60-month loan at 5% financing and $0 down, the monthly payment comes to $1,658. See 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE 580 models for sale near you

2024 Mercedes-AMG GLE 53: $86,750
The first of two high-performance GLE models, the Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 is a powerhouse to be both admired and desired.
Building off the base GLE SUV, the AMG version adds a 429-horsepower 3.0-liter turbocharged engine, an AMG-enhanced 4Matic AWD system with fully variable torque vectoring, and an AMG-tuned 9-speed automatic transmission. There’s also an AMG performance exhaust producing an intoxicating note.
AMG works it magic on the GLE 53’s suspension, with their own versions of the Ride Control Airmatic system and adaptive dampers. Large AMG performance brakes are there to bring the fun to halt when required quickly.
The GLE 53 rolls on big 20-inch alloy wheels and sees additional exterior styling upgrades to its grille, front and rear fascia, fender flares, and exhaust tips.
Moving to the GLE 53’s cabin, we see the addition of bolstered front sport seats covered in fine Nappa leather, a new performance AMG-style steering wheel, a 13-speaker Burmester audio system, augmented video for navigation, a 115-volt outlet, a panoramic sunroof, and AMG-specific interior accents.
Numerous AMG packages offer features like Active Ride Control +, AMG high-performance brakes, gloss black wheels and accents, and AMG Track Pace, allowing the driver to store performance data in the MBUX system.
