The 2024 Mini Cooper defies categorization. Its tiny size and efficient engines point toward an economy car, but its individualistic styling and performance upgrades scream “pocket rocket” all day long.
Offered as a 2-door hardtop, 4-door hardtop, and 2-door convertible, the Mini Cooper holds broad appeal.
With turbocharged gas engine choices ranging from peppy to powerhouse, the Mini Cooper is undoubtedly a fun ride. The availability of a 6-speed manual transmission across the model range appeals to enthusiasts, as well as young buyers rediscovering the joy of shifting for themselves.
Those seeking a greener ride will appreciate the SE EV, which promises 114 miles of emissions-free driving.
As for rivals, it’s hard to find a direct competitor — certainly, in coupe form. The Toyota GR86 and Subaru BRZ might qualify, while 4-door models like the Volkswagen GTI, Toyota Corolla Hatchback, Kia Soul, and Mazda3 stand out. The upcoming Fiat 500e will provide an electric alternative.
2024 Mini Cooper: $25,800 (2-door), $26,800 (4-door), $35,700 (convertible)
The Cooper is the least expensive and least potent Mini. It features a 134-horsepower turbocharged 1.3-liter 3-cylinder engine and 6-speed manual transmission, with the option to upgrade to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic.
The standard Classic trim package includes 15-inch wheels with run-flat tires, rain-sensing wipers, automatic on/off LED headlights with cornering lights, heated power side mirrors, and heated washer jets.
Besides carbon-black leatherette upholstery, the Mini interior features height-adjustable manual front seats, cruise control, power windows and door locks, manual air conditioning, and a leather-wrapped tilt/telescoping steering wheel.
There’s a digital instrument cluster attached to the steering column, and a large round centerpiece that once housed the giant analog speedometer on early Mini Cooper models is now home to an 8.8-inch infotainment touchscreen.
The Cooper’s infotainment system includes a 6-speaker AM/FM/HD Radio tuner, Bluetooth phone, music streaming, and SiriusXM satellite radio. Apple CarPlay comes standard, but Android Auto is unavailable on Mini Cooper. BMW and Mini connect services are available but require a subscription.

However, the Iconic on 4-door Cooper S Iconic gains an available 12-speaker Harman Kardon audio system and a parking assistant that can automatically parallel park the car.

If you were hoping for a 4-door EV, the closest thing in the Mini family is the plug-in hybrid Mini Countryman SE ALL4 SUV.
The Cooper SE follows the same trim ladder as the other Cooper models, offering Classic, Signature, and Iconic trims. However, the Classic trim gains a few more features, adding sport seats, dual-zone automatic climate controls, an acoustic sound generator for pedestrians, and a heated steering wheel.
