The 2024 Mitsubishi Mirage is the most fuel-efficient non-hybrid gas-powered car money can buy (at least here in the United States). Toss in a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty and sub $17,000 starting price, and the appeal becomes apparent.
The Mirage comes as a 5-door hatchback or 4-door sedan (called the Mirage G4), adding 18 inches to the car’s overall length. The sedan’s added size gives it more rear-seat legroom than its smaller hatchback sibling, something to consider if you regularly carry passengers.
The Mirage’s tiny 1.2-liter 3-cylinder engine musters only 78 horsepower, resulting in an anemic 0-60 mph time of nearly 12 seconds. The trade-off is superior fuel economy, rated at 36 mpg city and 43 mpg highway (hatchback), which is better than rivals like the Nissan Versa and Kia Soul.

2024 Mitsubishi Mirage ES: $16,695 (hatchback), $17,795 (sedan)
The Mitsubishi Mirage ES hatchback and sedan are nearly identical regarding features. The hatchback naturally adds a rear wiper/washer and roof-mounted spoiler, whereas the sedan has a locking trunk with an attached spoiler.
The ES is a pretty Spartan affair, offering only the bare minimum driver assist systems. However, it does come with all government-mandated safety equipment, including front-seat side airbags, side-curtain and knee airbags, a rear backup camera, and a tire pressure monitor. The only advanced driver-assist system is a forward collision mitigation system (automatic emergency braking) with pedestrian detection.
Riding on 14-inch steel wheels with full covers, the ES features halogen headlights, LED taillights, body-color bumpers and mirrors, and remote keyless entry.
Cloth upholstery covers manually adjustable front seats and a split-folding rear seat (hatchback) or fixed back seat with pass-through and folding armrest (sedan). The ES features power windows and door locks, automatic climate control, cruise control, Bluetooth hands-free phone connectivity, and a tilt/telescoping steering wheel with audio, phone, and cruise buttons.
The audio setup includes a 7-inch touchscreen featuring Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a 4-speaker AM/FM radio. Power for charging devices comes from one USB port and one 12-volt outlet.
There are no factory options for the ES. However, dealer-installed accessories include all-weather floor mats, cargo organizers, faux carbon-fiber interior accents, front and rear parking sensors, and a powered subwoofer from Rockford Fosgate.
