The 2024 Nissan Altima is one of the more versatile midsize sedans, offering buyers a wide array of trims, three of which (SV, SL, and SR) offer the option of all-wheel drive. There’s also the high-performance turbocharged SR VC-Turbo directed at budget-minded enthusiasts.
Powering all but the SR VC-Turbo is a 188-horsepower (182-hp with AWD) 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine paired with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). This proven combo for Nissan delivers exceptional fuel economy and respectable performance.
The SR VC-Turbo gets a more potent powerplant: a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder with variable compression. It sends 248 hp to the front wheels when using premium 93-octane fuel.
With only a few sedan competitors from which to choose, buyers can also find AWD on the Toyota Camry and Subaru Legacy or go with the Camry and Honda Accord hybrids, a feature not available on the Nissan Altima.
The Kia K5 also offers AWD, while the Hyundai Sonata offers a hybrid powertrain. Both have better warranty coverage than all the cars mentioned above.

2024 Nissan Altima S: $25,730
The Altima S is a basic sedan with numerous admirable features and a low price. However, given that the next trim is only $800 more, those looking for more features and options will likely skip to the SV.
Offered only with front-wheel drive, the Altima S provides a roomy cabin, basic amenities, and an impressive array of active and passive safety features.
Nissan Safety Shield 360 driver-assist suite includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, a blind-spot monitor, lane-departure warning, and rear automatic braking with rear cross-traffic detection.
The S trim also features a tire pressure monitor and a driver attention monitor. Rear Door Alert reminds the driver to check the back seat before exiting the vehicle, while the Easy-Fill tire pressure alert system flashes the car’s lights and honks the horn when reaching the optimal tire pressure.
The Altima S has 10 airbags, including driver and front passenger knee and rear outboard side-impact airbags.
Nissan outfits the Altima S with 16-inch steel wheels and plastic covers, automatic on/off LED headlights, automatic high beams, rear parking sensors, and keyless entry with selective unlocking.
A look inside the Altima S cabin reveals cloth upholstery covering manually adjustable front seats and a 60/40-split folding rear seat complete with trunk-mounted release levers.
There’s a tilt/telescoping steering wheel with controls for the cruise, Bluetooth phone, and audio. Also included is a driver’s side auto up/down power window, a push-button starter, single-zone manual air conditioning, remote start, and a rear window defroster.
The Altima S audio system consists of a 7-inch color touchscreen display connected to an AM/FM stereo with six speakers. The system includes a hands-free text-messaging assistant, streaming audio via Bluetooth, and Siri Eyes Free/Google Assistant voice recognition. A single USB-A port and a 12-volt outlet are the only charge points.

2024 Nissan Altima S includes:
- Safety Shield 360 – This comprehensive suite of driver assists includes automatic emergency braking, a blind-spot monitor, and automatic rear braking.
- Automatic high-beam headlights – Using light sensors, the Altima automatically activates the high beams when needed and dims them when sensing approaching traffic.
- Trunk-mounted seat release – Release levers mounted in the trunk make it easy to fold down the rear seatbacks when you need more cargo space.
2024 Nissan Altima SV: $26,530 (FWD), $28,030 (AWD)
For only $800 more than the base S, the 2024 Nissan Altima SV adds desirable features and opens the door to more options, such as all-wheel drive.
Building off the S, the SV adds 17-inch alloy wheels, an 8-way power driver’s seat, a 7-inch driver assist display, and Nissan Intelligent Key with proximity key fob, which allows the doors to unlock or lock simply by touching a button on the door handle.
The SV’s infotainment system also sees a significant upgrade, adding an 8-inch touchscreen, SiriusXM satellite radio, and four illuminated USB charge ports, including one USB-A and USB-C in the front and rear passenger areas. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also standard, allowing integration of a compatible smartphone.
Optional on the SV is the SV Premium Package, and wow, is it loaded with features! Check this option box, and you’ll get a power moonroof, heated side mirrors, heated front seats, driver’s seat 2-way power lumbar support, an electronic parking brake, plus a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob.
Also included is Nissan’s ProPilot Assist, which adds full-speed range adaptive cruise control with a hold feature, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering, and traffic sign recognition. Active Ride Control reduces pitching on bumpy or uneven pavement. At the same time, Intelligent Trace Control can detect if the vehicle is veering from its intended course and use gentle braking to bring the car back in line.
The SV Premium Package also adds a 12.3-inch color touchscreen, door-to-door navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM Traffic and Travel Link (requires subscription), a wireless charging pad (can be deleted for credit), a Wi-Fi hot spot, and NissanConnect apps and services.

Other SR features include a dark chrome V-Motion grille surround, unique grille insert, exhaust finishers, Sport Combo seat upholstery, red-stitching on the seats, doors, and dash, and simulated carbon fiber trim.
Optional on the SR is the SR Premium Package that brings leather-appointed sport seats, heated front seats, driver’s seat 2-way power lumbar support, a power moonroof, a 4-way power passenger seat, and heated outside mirrors.
A 12.3-inch color touchscreen replaces the standard 8-inch screen. It includes door-to-door navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM Travel Link and Traffic (requires subscription), a wireless charging pad, a Wi-Fi hot spot, and NissanConnect apps and services.

ProPilot Assist comes standard, but sadly, all-wheel drive is not available.

2024 Nissan Altima SR VC-Turbo includes:
- 2.0-liter turbocharged engine – This little powerplant puts up some big numbers, touting 248 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque, yet with fuel economy numbers not all that far from the non-turbo trims.
- ProPilot Assist – Allows the driver to set the following distance from the car ahead when using cruise control. It will slow or bring the car to a complete stop if necessary. It also will center the vehicle between lane markings and allow for short stints of momentary hands-free driving.
- Power moonroof – This single-panel glass moonroof lets light in when closed or plenty of fresh air when vented or fully retracted.

The SL is the most luxurious Altima, building off the contents of the SV with the Premium Package.
