The Nissan Z is one of the last 2-seat sports cars from a non-luxury brand. It’s true to form with rear-wheel drive (RWD), an available manual transmission, and a potent turbocharged V6 engine making up to 420 horsepower. We also love the styling, striking a just-right balance of modern design with retro inspiration.
The Nissan Z competes with sports cars like the Toyota GR Supra, Ford Mustang, and Subaru BRZ. The top-of-the-line NISMO model is competitive with luxury sports coupes like the BMW M2 and Porsche 718 Cayman.
What’s New:
The Proto Spec trim is gone this year, and a new NISMO trim serves as the top performance model in the Z lineup. Also, the Performance and NISMO trims now come with Amazon Alexa connectivity.
Our Recommendation:
It’s hard to find fault in the base Nissan Z Sport, which we think is the best value. However, the performance, interior, and tech upgrades in the Performance model are worth the extra cost if budget allows. The NISMO is the ultimate Nissan Z, but at a price.
