As a compact new electric SUV, the 2024 Polestar 3 looks to take on the Mercedes-Benz EQB, Tesla Model X, Audi e-tron, and BMW iX. Some might say that’s an ambitious list for an upstart. Still, given the Polestar 3’s handsome exterior, modern interior, impressive range, and performance, we don’t think it’s all that much of a stretch.
For now, the Polestar 3 comes in just one trim, the Long Range Dual Motor, which has a 300-mile range and hits 60 mph in less than five seconds. Polestar offers several package upgrades, including a Performance pack with more horsepower and a performance suspension.
The Polestar 3 comes loaded with high-tech features. It also has a green side, using environmentally supportive materials like vegan leather made from plant-based oil or animal welfare-certified wool upholstery.
Polestar does not qualify for a federal tax rebate until it starts manufacturing the 3 in the United States.
2024 Polestar 3 Long Range Dual Motor: $83,900
The dual-motor Polestar 3 features all-wheel drive (AWD) and 489 horsepower. The 400-volt, 111-kW lithium-ion battery can carry the Polestar 3 up to 300 miles in ideal conditions and takes about 30 minutes to reach an 80% charge from 10% using a DC fast-charging station.
The Polestar 3 features adaptive LED headlights that can regulate the beam’s intensity and distance. It also features extendable power door handles, a foot-activated power tailgate, a fixed panoramic glass roof, and an air suspension that lowers automatically at high speeds for reduced wind resistance and added stability.
Other advanced features include front and rear heated wipers with rain sensors, soft-close doors, and frameless auto-dimming and power-folding heated side mirrors that tilt down in reverse.
Unique aero wings built into the hood and rear deck help cheat the wind. Staggered-width 21-inch wheels come standard, with 22-inch upgrades available.
If you look closely, you’ll notice quite a few cameras and radar modules peppering the Polestar 3’s exterior. They support a sophisticated suite of driver-assist systems and future software enabling fully autonomous driving.
The Polestar 3 features a long list of advanced safety systems, including forward collision warning with pedestrian and cyclist detection, front and rear automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning with mitigation, and lane-keeping assist.
Adaptive cruise control with Pilot Assist features steering assist that keeps the Polestar 3 centered in its lane. There’s also a blind-spot monitor with steering assist and a rear cross-traffic detection system with emergency braking.
The adaptive LED headlights include automatic high beams, while standard parking sensors help you negotiate tight parking spaces.
The Polestar 3 features a driver attention monitor and a system that uses cameras to detect motion inside the car and reminds you to check for kids or pets left in the back seat.
Even if you plan to leave a pet in the car momentarily, the climate controls can be set to keep Polestar 3’s cabin comfortable while you’re away.
The Polestar 3’s interior exemplifies what the company calls “Scandinavian minimalism,” a fancy way of saying it’s relatively low-key. Seat coverings of wool or vegan leather are standard, with high-end leather available for an additional $5,500.
Amenities include 8-way power front seats with multi-adjustable power lumbar and manual cushion extensions, a heated power tilt/telescoping steering wheel, and 3-zone automatic climate controls with advanced air filtration.
The Polestar 3’s seats remember the settings for each driver using profiles stored in the Android operating system.
The driver enjoys a 9-inch digital screen hosting essential readouts like speed, range, and navigation. To the driver’s right is a 14.5-inch digital touch screen used for everything from climate control to navigation to Google built-in powered by the Android Automotive operating system. Don’t worry, Apple users. The system supports your phones, too.
There’s also a 9-inch head-up display, a wireless charging pad, haptic touch-sensitive steering wheel controls, and 10 airbags.
Audio fans will rejoice at the standard Bowers & Wilkins sound system, which features 25 speakers powered by a healthy 1,610-watt amp.
Options for the Polestar 3 include the Performance pack, which bumps horsepower to 517 but shaves about 30 miles off the range. The pack boasts 22-inch wheels, a Polestar Engineered performance suspension, and gold accents on the seat belts, ambient light strip, and valve caps.
The Pilot pack with LiDAR preps the Polestar 3 with everything it will need when fully autonomous driving becomes a reality. Until then, it simply creates a 3-dimensional understanding of the environment around the vehicle, helping drivers see things they might otherwise miss in adverse weather or low-light situations.
With the $1,400 delivery fee, the 2024 Polestar 3 SUV costs $85,300. On a 60-month loan at 5% financing and zero down, the monthly payment comes to $1,610. See 2024 Polestar 3 models for sale near you
