2024 Porsche Cayenne: Choosing the Right Trim

The 2024 Porsche Cayenne blends performance and luxury in a 5-passenger SUV as dynamic as it is desirable.

The Cayenne gets a significant makeover with new exterior styling, interior upgrades, and performance enhancements. Porsche simplifies the lineup, reducing it to just three models: the Cayenne, Cayenne E-Hybrid, and the Cayenne S.

Every Cayenne features standard all-wheel drive (AWD) and a turbocharged 6- or 8-cylinder engine. The plug-in Cayenne E-Hybrid pairs a 174-horsepower electric motor with a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 gas engine that churns out a combined output of 463 hp and a 4.6-second 0-60 mph run.

The Cayenne S upgrades from a V6 to a V8 and tacks on twin turbochargers for good measure. The Cayenne S bolts to 60 mph in just 4.4 seconds.

The new Cayenne is better in every way, but it still faces tough competition from the Audi RS Q8, Genesis GV80, BMW X5, and Mercedes-Benz GLE.

Porsche also makes a 4-door coupe version for the Cayenne, reviewed separately.

2024 Porsche Cayenne: $79,200

The base Cayenne sees significant improvements this year, beginning under the hood. A revised turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 produces 348 hp and attaches to an 8-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission, routing power to all four wheels.

Performance features include sport-tuned steel springs, Porsche Active Suspension Management system (PASM), and Power Steering Plus, which reduces the effort needed to turn the steering wheel at low speeds.

The PASM system includes four driver-selectable settings: Normal, Sport, Sport Plus, and Off-Road.

The Cayenne has 20-inch alloy wheels, power-heated and auto-dimming side mirrors, rain-sensing wipers, and Matrix Design LED headlights. The Matrix Design lights include 64,000 camera-controlled pixels that react to different driving situations, allowing the beam to adjust to produce a glare-free high beam, illuminate the exact driving lane, or create an optimized beam specifically designed for use in rain or fog.

Comfort Access allows unlocking and starting the Cayenne without removing the key fob from your purse or pocket. It also works with the foot-activated power liftgate.

Porsche steps up the Cayenne’s standard driver-assist systems this year to include forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, front and rear parking sensors, lane-keeping assist, lane-change assist, and active speed limit assist with traffic sign recognition.

Some of the most significant changes for the new Cayenne occur in the cabin. Here you’ll find the Porsche Driving Experience, a design that optimizes driver interaction with the various controls. There’s a new 911-style steering wheel, power operated, of course. Controls mounted on a stalk are closer to the wheel, making them easier to use. A new dash-mounted toggle switch also acts as the transmission’s gear selector.

A 12.6-inch curved digital instrument cluster replaces last year’s analog gauges. It’s complemented by a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen with access to wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, Porsche navigation, and Porsche apps, as well as native apps like Spotify and Apple Music.

A 10-speaker 150-watt audio system comes standard, with the option to upgrade to high-end systems from Bose and Burmester.

Additional Cayenne amenities include cruise control, partial leather upholstery, 8-way heated power front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, a wireless charging pad, ambient interior lighting, and memory for the driver’s seat and mirrors.

Along with three 12-volt outlets, there are four USB-C charge ports (two in the front console and two in the rear seat area).

If there’s one thing the Cayenne does better than all of its competition, it’s customization. Buyers have a lengthy (and pricey) menu of options, making it possible to create a one-of-a-kind Cayenne.

If I were the one checking boxes, I would definitely go with the additional driver-assist systems, such as adaptive cruise control, a head-up display, Night Vision, and a 3D Surround View camera with Active Parking Support. You may not use these features daily, but when you need them, you’ll be happy they’re onboard.

The Cayenne’s adaptive cruise control is enhanced this year, adding Evasion Assist, which improves steering response in emergency maneuver situations, and Turn Assist, which looks for oncoming traffic when making a left turn and activates the brakes if a collision is likely.

InnoDrive, which works with adaptive cruise control, gains new abilities to operate in stop-and-go traffic.

Cayenne buyers can choose from several seat upgrades, including 14- or 18-way power front seats, heated and ventilated front and rear seats, and massaging front and rear seats. Leather upholstery in various colors and trim offer even more personalization.

A few big-ticket items include a panoramic glass moonroof with power sunshade, soft-close doors, 4-zone automatic climate control, a heated steering wheel, a power sun blind for rear side windows, a heated windshield, and HD Matrix Design headlights with automatic high-beam headlights.

This year, an available 10.9-inch passenger-side digital screen allows passengers access to performance data and infotainment options that include video. Buyers can also opt for a rear seat entertainment system with two 10-inch touchscreen displays.

Audiophiles can choose between a 710-watt, 14-speaker Bose Surround Sound system or a 1,455-watt, 21-speaker Burmester 3D High-End Surround Sound system.

On the performance end, the Cayenne offers adaptive air suspension, rear-axle steering, Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC), the Sport Chrono Package, a performance exhaust, and an Off-Road Package, which includes rock rails with integrated skid plates, additional underbody protection for the engine and rear axle, plus tilt, gradient, and steering angle displays.

You’ll find even more options for wheels, exterior and interior customization, custom paint, and delivery options, including traveling to Europe to pick up your Cayenne.

With the $1,650 delivery charge, the 2024 Porsche Cayenne costs $80,850. On a 60-month loan with 5% financing and $0 down, the monthly payment comes to $1,526. See 2024 Porsche Cayenne models for sale near you

2024 Porsche Cayenne includes:

  • Curved digital instrument cluster – The Cayenne’s new curved digital instrument cluster offers numerous configurations and helps this SUV stay contemporary with its competitors.
  • PASM – The Porsche Active Suspension Management system adjusts the shock damping to contend with whatever the situation requires, firming for quick emergency maneuvers or softening when encountering rough pavement.
  • Driver-assist systems – The Cayenne gets a host of new standard driver-assist systems designed to help make the drive a bit safer.

2024 Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid: $91,700

If you like the features and look of the Cayenne but want something with more performance and better fuel economy, the Cayenne E-Hybrid is the way to go. Its standard and optional equipment closely mirrors the Cayenne, but its plug-in hybrid powertrain now offers more electric-only range than last year’s Cayenne PHEV, likely about 25 miles.

For 2024, the E-Hybrid gains a larger 25.9-kWh battery and an 11-kW onboard charger allowing for faster charge times. The electric motor and turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 (the same engine in the Cayenne) combine to produce 463 hp and a 0-60 mph sprint of just 4.6 seconds.

As this is a plug-in hybrid, the E-Hybrid includes two charging cables: one 240-volt NEMA 6-50 plug and one 120-volt Type B plug.

The Cayenne E-Hybrid has a slightly smaller fuel tank (19.8 gallons vs. 23.7) but adds features like the Sport Chrono Package, unique 20-inch AeroDesign wheels, and an electric sound generator so people will hear when you’re coming.

The dual-zone climate control includes a preconditioning auxiliary cabin air conditioner for use when the Cayenne is charging.

With the $1,650 delivery charge, the 2024 Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid costs $93,350. On a 60-month loan with 5% financing and $0 down, the monthly payment comes to $1,762. See 2024 Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid models for sale near you

2024 Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid includes:

  • Limited electric range – With the plug-in hybrid battery, you can drive the Cayenne E-Hybrid an expected 25 miles without burning a drop of gas.
  • Available Burmester Audio – The $7,000 Burmester 3D High-End Surround Sound system is worth every penny if you love loud, clear, bass-filled audio.
  • Available passenger display screen – This 10-inch digital screen lets the passenger control audio selection, monitor driving information, and help plan navigation routing. The screen can’t be viewed from the driver’s seat, so the passenger can stream a movie or game while the Cayenne is in motion.

2024 Porsche Cayenne S: $95,700

Moving to the Cayenne S brings a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 pumping out 468 hp. The Cayenne S hits 60 mph in just 4.4 seconds, slightly faster than the Cayenne E-Hybrid.

Standard equipment is the same as with the base Cayenne, except for the 20-inch Cayenne S wheels and red brake calipers.

The S model offers a few additional options. One of them is Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus, a system that will brake the inside rear wheel when negotiating tight curves, sending more torque to the outside wheel and thus helping the Cayenne stay on the intended driving line.

With the $1,650 delivery charge, the 2024 Porsche Cayenne S costs $97,350. On a 60-month loan with 5% financing and $0 down, the monthly payment comes to $1,837. See 2024 Porsche Cayenne S models for sale near you

2024 Porsche Cayenne S includes:

  • Panoramic sunroof – A full-length glass panel roof with a power-sliding front section lets additional light and air into the cabin.
  • Foot-activated power liftgate – Wave your foot under the Cayenne’s rear bumper, and the power liftgate automatically opens.
  • Available Sport Chrono Package – A Porsche mainstay, Sport Chrono includes an analog and digital stopwatch, additional features assigned to the Sport Plus mode, and a steering wheel-mounted Sport response button.

FAQ

  • What is the best 2024 Porsche Cayenne trim?

If you’re looking for a nice blend of performance and price, the Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid delivers both, with plenty of optional upgrades to make it your own. Although the Cayenne S is only a fraction of a second quicker to 60 mph than the E-Hybrid, the sound and feel of its twin-turbocharged V8 is to driving enthusiasts what catnip is to kitties.

  • How many MPGs does the 2023 Porsche Cayenne get?

The EPA has yet to release official fuel economy figures for the 2024 Porsche Cayenne, but we imagine they won’t be far from last year’s models, which average around 19 mpg combined for the Cayenne, 21 mpg for the E-Hybrid, and 18 mpg combined for the Cayenne S.

With its larger battery, we expect the Cayenne E-Hybrid model to be able to travel about 25 miles solely on electric power.

  • Which 2024 Porsche Cayenne trim offers the most safety?

As all Porsche Cayenne models offer the same level of standard and optional driver assists, we say they’ll all fare pretty much the same. If safety is a concern, check the boxes for the additional assists, as well as adaptive cruise control and 360-degree camera system, and you’ll be just fine.
