2024 Subaru Ascent: Choosing the Right Trim

The 2024 Subaru Ascent is a 3-row, 8-passenger SUV brimming with Subaru safety features like the EyeSight driver-assist system. Early reliability issues on the first-year models seem to have been addressed, helping the Ascent rise to the level of quality and reliability expected of the brand.

That said, plenty of 3-row competitors vie for your attention; chief among them are the new Toyota Grand Highlander, Kia Telluride, Ford Explorer, Honda Pilot, and GMC Acadia.

What makes the Ascent unique is its standard Symmetrical All-Wheel-Drive, a feature that doesn’t seem to harm its fuel economy figures much yet gives it superior year-round traction on wet or dry pavement.

Every Ascent comes with a 260-horsepower 2.4-liter turbocharged boxer engine. While this flat-4 engine is not the most powerful in the class, it’s more than sufficient for most needs.

All but the Base trim of the 2024 Subaru Ascent have a 5,000-pound tow rating. The Ascent Base is rated to tow 2,000 pounds.

What’s New:

The Subaru Ascent sees no significant changes for 2024.

Our Recommendation:

The Premium’s combination of price, standard equipment, and optional features make it a compelling choice. But with features like driver’s lumbar support and a Harman Kardon audio system, the Limited Edition and its upgrade package are a better choice.

2024 Subaru Ascent: $34,195

The entry-level Subaru Ascent Base offers essential safety and comfort features at a low price. However, it lacks optional upgrades and provides a somewhat muted color palette. Still, it’s a pretty good deal for those needing only the bare minimum.

Along with its turbocharged engine and standard all-wheel drive (AWD), the Ascent includes X-Mode, an enhanced AWD system providing better traction in low-speed situations, such as when traversing snow-covered roads. Hill descent control is also included, helping the vehicle descend steep hills without needing to apply the brakes constantly.

Trailer Stability Assist helps the Ascent reduce trailer sway when towing.

As safety is critical to most families, Subaru equips the Ascent with its latest EyeSight Driver Assist suite.

The package includes forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, low-speed automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control with lane-centering, lane-departure warning, and lane-keeping assist.

Other driver aids include automatic high-beam headlights, a rear backup camera with a washer, a tire pressure monitor, and Rear Seat Reminder that tells the driver to check the back seat for children or pets before exiting the vehicle. Auto vehicle hold keeps the vehicle in place when stopped without the driver needing to use the brake pedal.

Standard features for the Ascent Base include 18-inch alloy wheels, steering-responsive LED headlights, a rear washer/wiper with a vehicle-speed-sensing intermittent setting, an electronic locking fuel door, power side mirrors, and black roof rails.

The Ascent offers seating for eight, with a 6-way manually adjustable driver’s seat and 60/40-split folding and reclining second- and third-row seats covered in durable cloth fabric.

Amenities include one-touch up/down front power windows, tri-zone automatic climate control, remote keyless entry, and a tilt/telescoping steering wheel with paddle shifters and controls for the audio, Bluetooth, adaptive cruise control, and driver information screens.

The Ascent’s infotainment system consists of an 11.6-inch tablet-style touchscreen controlling the audio and climate settings. The infotainment setup includes a 6-speaker AM/FM stereo, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, and access to Subaru Starlink apps and services.

The Ascent comes standard with two 12-volt outlets (one on the console and one in the cargo bay) plus USB-A and USB-C ports in the center console’s front and rear sections. It also has 19 separate cupholders.

With the $1,295 destination fee, the cost for a 2024 Subaru Ascent comes to $35,490. On a 60-month loan with 5% financing and $0 down, the monthly payment comes to $670. See 2024 Subaru Ascent models for sale near you
