For 2024, the Tesla Model Y will carry over with minimal change. However, as Tesla doesn’t do traditional model year changes, an updated version may drop into the U.S. market sometime before 2025. We say this because there are believable rumors of a Model Y Juniper program like the one that spawned the new Model 3. That car launched first in China, Tesla’s biggest market, and then Europe.
For now, if you go to the Tesla website to build and buy a Model Y, you’ll get the same version offered in 2023, which includes the rear-wheel-drive (RWD) Standard Range and all-wheel-drive (AWD) Long Range and Performance trims.
Tesla’s price leader is also one of the best-selling electric vehicles (EVs) worldwide, with a base price starting just under $45,000. That leaves room for competitors with the same or better range, such as the Kia Niro EV, Nissan Ariya, Ford Mustang Mach-E, and Hyundai Ioniq 5.
The Model Y is one of the few Tesla EVs that qualifies for a $7,500 federal tax credit. The manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of the vehicle cannot exceed $80,000 to participate in the program, while the buyer must meet IRS income requirements. To qualify, buyers must have a modified adjusted gross income not to exceed $300,000 for married filing jointly, $225,000 for head of household, and $150,000 for individuals.

What’s New:
The 2024 Tesla Model Y continues without change, but an updated model is on its way. Whether it arrives this year as a 2024 or 2025 model is yet to be seen.
Our Recommendation:
The Tesla Model Y Long Range model has a longer driving range and optional 3-row seating while being plenty quick.
If you’re all about maximum acceleration, you have but one choice: the Model Y Performance.

2024 Tesla Model Y Standard Range: $43,990
The Standard Range trim keeps the Model Y’s price under $45,000. But with its RWD layout and limited 260-mile range, it may not meet the needs of buyers looking for maximum range and year-round driving confidence.
That said, standard features include 19-inch wheels, LED headlights and taillights, a power liftgate, a panoramic glass roof, faux leather upholstery, heated front and rear seats, a heated steering wheel, automatic climate control, a wireless charging pad, a 15-inch touchscreen with navigation, and a 13-speaker audio system.
The standard Basic Autopilot safety tech suite bundles several driver-assistance features. These include automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, road sign assist, and parking sensors.
Upgrading to Enhanced Autopilot ($6,000) adds Navigate on Autopilot, automatic lane changing, Autopark, Summon, and Smart Summon, which can remotely get the Model Y in and out of tight parking spots.
Adding Full Self-Driving Capability ($12,000) adds the perks of Enhanced Autopilot plus traffic light and stop sign control. Autosteer on city streets is coming soon as an over-the-air update, but only if you have this package.
Twenty-inch wheels are available for $2,000 but knock 18 miles off the Model Y’s range. You can also add a tow hitch for $1,000. The maximum tow capacity of the Model Y is 3,500 pounds. There are five paint options; all but Stealth Grey cost extra, ranging from $1,000 to $2,000.
A two-tone black-and-white interior is optional for $1,000.
Finally, there are two options for charging connectors. You can get a wall connector for $425 or a mobile connector for $230. The wall connector is better for at-home charging, but the versatile mobile connector is portable and adapts to various outlets.
When you factor in the $1,390 destination fee and $250 nonrefundable deposit, the starting price of the Model Y Standard Range comes to $45,630 ($38,130 after federal tax credit if you qualify). If you get a 60-month loan at 5% interest with no trade-in or money down, the monthly payment will start at $861. See 2024 Tesla Model Y Standard Range models for sale near you
2024 Tesla Model Y Standard Range includes:
Up to 260 miles of range — The Model Y Standard Range has more than enough driving range for commuting and errand running.
Autopilot — The Basic Autopilot system bundles automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, and more.
13-speaker audio – Tesla’s in-house audio system is as high-tech as the rest of the car, equaling or besting several premium systems we’ve tested this year.
2024 Tesla Model Y Long Range: $48,990
The Tesla Model Y Long Range boasts an impressive EPA range of up to 310 miles. It’s also fun to drive, thanks partly to a swift 4.8-second 0-60 mph time. This electric SUV has a nice balance of driving enjoyment and practicality.
An optional third row of seats ($3,000) brings the total seating capacity up to seven. The third row is tight but can be a godsend when needed.
When you factor in the $1,390 destination fee and $250 deposit, the starting price of the Model Y Long Range comes to $50,630 ($43,130 after federal tax credit if you qualify). If you get a 60-month loan at 5% interest with no trade-in or money down, the monthly payment will start at $955. See 2024 Tesla Model Y Long Range models for sale near you
2024 Tesla Model Y Long Range includes:
310 miles of range – This model is for you if you like long trips and infrequent stops at the charger.
Up to seven seats — An optional third row turns this SUV into a versatile 7-seater.

2024 Tesla Model Y Performance: $52,490
The Model Y Performance has a dual-motor setup similar to the Long Range model, but Tesla has tuned it for better performance. It hustles from 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds while achieving an EPA range of up to 285 miles.
Additional upgrades include 21-inch Überturbine wheels, performance brakes, a lowered suspension, a carbon-fiber rear spoiler, and aluminum alloy pedals.
The Performance model has the same options as the Standard and Long Range models in interior colors, paint colors, semiautonomous driving tech, and charging equipment. However, you can’t get a third row of seats in the Model Y Performance like the Long Range. It only comes as a 5-seater.
When you factor in the $1,390 destination fee and $250 deposit, the starting price of the Model Y Performance comes to $54,130 ($46,630 after federal tax credit if you qualify). If you get a 60-month loan at 5% interest with no trade-in or money down, the monthly payment will start at $1,022. See 2024 Tesla Model Y Performance models for sale near you
