2024 Toyota Tundra: Choosing the Right Trim

As half-ton pickups go, it doesn’t get much better than the 2024 Toyota Tundra. It trades on a long reputation for durability, reliability, capability, and exceptional resale value. And, while the Tundra can’t match domestic rivals such as the Ford F-150, Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra, and Ram 1500 in bed, cab, and engine choices, it does offer enough variation to hit the sweet spot for most pickup buyers.

Toyota offers the 2024 Tundra in five trims: SR, SR5, Limited, Platinum, and 1794. The SR is a basic work truck, while the SR5 is the most popular trim for work and play. The Limited, Platinum, and 1794 move the Tundra into the luxury side of the business. If you order your Tundra as a 4×4, add $3,000 to the price.

All Tundra models derive power from a turbocharged 3.4-liter V6 with respectable horsepower, torque figures, and fuel economy in the high teens to mid-20s. A hybrid gas/electric powertrain (reviewed separately) is offered in the Platinum and 1794. While the hybrid does produce more power and better performance, its fuel economy is hardly any better than the conventional V6. If you’re looking for the TRD Pro or Capstone models, they are available as hybrids only.

What’s New:

For 2024, the Toyota Tundra gains a new Nightshade appearance package option, while the Platinum 4×4 grade now offers the TRD Off-Road Package and a 3-inch TRD suspension lift kit.

Our Recommendation:

The Tundra SR5 is our favorite trim. Priced right and offering loads of optional equipment, this popular model allows for personal customization down to the last detail. Luxury buyers should go right for the Platinum or 1794 Edition trims.

2024 Toyota Tundra SR: $39,965 (Double Cab), $42,015 (CrewMax)

If you want to spend as little as possible and don’t need the Tundra’s maximum towing or feature set, the SR trim has your name written all over it. However, if you’re looking for a truck with more features and better towing capability, we highly recommend moving to the SR5 grade.

The SR’s standard 3.4-liter twin-turbo V6 makes 358 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque. A 10-speed automatic transmission comes standard, with a part-time 4-wheel drive (4WD) optional.

Whereas the other Tundra trims can tow up to 12,000 pounds, the SR is limited to 8,300. However, the SR has one of the best payload figures of all the Tundra trims, tied with the SR5 at 1,940 pounds. The SR also gets slightly better fuel economy.

Regarding cab and bed choices, the SR gets limited to just three: a Double Cab with a 6.5- or 8-foot bed and the CrewMax crew cab with a 5.5-foot bed.

The SR trim features Toyota’s Safety Sense 2.5, which includes forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, automatic high-beam headlights, adaptive cruise control, and traffic sign recognition.

The Tundra SR also has a rear backup camera with project path guidelines, hill start assist, a tire pressure monitor, and eight airbags.

Although not fancy, the SR still strikes an alluring pose with a black grille and 18-inch steel wheels. It also has heated power side mirrors, auto on/off LED headlights, and a proximity key fob with push-button start and touch-to-unlock door handles.

An aluminum-reinforced bed includes a deck rail header, an easy lower and lift tailgate, an LED trailer reverse-assist light, and a tailgate spoiler. A class-exclusive vertical power rear window that lowers into the cab wall is standard on the CrewMax, while the Double Cab has a center section horizontal power-sliding window.

Moving to the cab, you’ll find one-touch auto up/down power windows, power door locks, LED map lights, an overhead console, and a tilt/telescoping steering wheel.

Amenities include single-zone air automatic climate control, rear seat air vents (CrewMax only), cloth upholstery, manually adjustable front seats, a 60/40-split folding back seat with under-seat storage, and a 4.2-inch color multi-information display.

The SR touts an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen with 6-speaker audio. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard, along with a 3-month trial to SiriusXM Platinum service and up to a 10-year trial subscription to Toyota Safety Connect, Wi-Fi Connect, Service Connect, and Remote Connect apps.

An available Tow Package adds a Class IV trailer hitch receiver and a 7-pin connector wiring harness.

With the $1,850 delivery charge (in most states), the 2024 Toyota Tundra SR 4×2 Double Cab costs $41,815. On a 60-month loan at 5% financing and $0 down, the monthly payment comes to $789. See 2024 Toyota Tundra SR models for sale near you

2024 Toyota Tundra SR includes:

  • LED headlights – The Tundra’s LED headlights use less energy while producing more light than conventional halogen bulbs.
  • Adaptive cruise control – Maintains a safe distance from the vehicle ahead, slowing and even stopping without input from the driver.
  • Power sliding rear window – A CrewMax exclusive, the Tundra’s rear window retracts into the body, creating a massive opening for fresh air behind the second row.

2024 Toyota Tundra SR5: $45,500 (Double Cab), $47,550 (CrewMax)

The SR5 is a better choice for budget-conscious shoppers. Yes, it costs a bit more than the SR, but it comes with a more powerful version of the same twin-turbocharged V6 (389 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque), Selectable Drive Modes (Eco, Normal, and Sport), better towing numbers, more configurations, and more optional equipment. No wonder it’s the best-selling trim in the Tundra lineup.

The SR5 expands its bed options, offering the CrewMax with a choice of 5.5- and 6.5-foot beds. CrewMax cabs with the 6.5-foot bed upgrade to a 32.3-gallon fuel tank.

Additional exterior enhancements include 18-inch alloy wheels, LED fog lights, a deck rail system with four adjustable cleats, black “overfenders” (fender flares), and a black grille with a body-colored surround.

CrewMax models gain three more speakers for a total of nine.

Buyers can opt for the TRD Off-Road Package, which brings 18-inch TRD off-road wheels, all-terrain tires, and TRD-tuned off-road suspension with Bilstein shocks and skid plates.

On SR5 4WD models (which start at $48,500), the package gains an electronic locking rear differential, Multi-Terrain Select, Crawl Control, Downhill Assist Control, a blind-spot monitor, a Panoramic View Monitor, and a Multi-Terrain Monitor with one additional camera lens underneath the truck.

The TRD Off-Road Premium Package builds off the above, adding SofTex upholstery, 8-way power heated front seats with 2-way power lumbar support, and dual-zone automatic climate control.

The contents of the Premium Package can also be ordered without the TRD packages.

The TRD Sport Package adds 20-inch black alloy wheels and a lowered sport suspension with Bilstein shocks.

The SR5 Convenience Package adds a blind-spot monitor, front and rear parking assist with automatic braking, and a 32.2-gallon fuel tank.

The Premium Audio Package adds a 14-inch monitor, two 120-volt outlets (one in the rear seat and one in the bed), and LED bed lights.

The Advanced Technology Package adds a blind-spot monitor, front and rear park assist with automatic braking, a Panoramic View Monitor, a Trailer Backup Guide, and a digital rearview mirror.

The SX Package is primarily an appearance package, adding color-keyed door handles and bumpers, black overfenders, a black cloth interior, 18-inch black alloy wheels, and SX decals.

Notable standalone options include heated and auto-dimming power-folding tow mirrors, load-leveling rear air suspension, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, skid plates, and 20-inch wheels.

A 3-inch suspension lift kit is also available on 4WD models.

With the $1,850 delivery charge, the 2024 Toyota Tundra SR5 4×2 Double Cab costs $47,350. On a 60-month loan at 5% financing and $0 down, the monthly payment comes to $894. See 2024 Toyota Tundra SR5 models for sale near you

2024 Toyota Tundra SR5 includes:

  • Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 – A comprehensive suite of driver assists designed to keep you alert and aware of your surroundings. Among the system’s more noteworthy features is the ability to slow or stop the vehicle before a collision can occur.
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto – Allows wireless integration of a compatible smartphone with the Tundra’s infotainment system.
  • Available TRD packages – These TRD (Toyota Racing Development) packages look fantastic and make the SR5 more capable on and off-road.

2024 Toyota Tundra Limited: $51,855 (Double Cab), $53,905 (CrewMax)

The Limited comes in a Double Cab with a 6.5-foot bed and CrewMax with a 5.5- or 6.5-foot bed.

The Limited trim adds more luxury to the Tundra without sacrificing its ability to do challenging jobs. It wears more chrome and exterior embellishments than the SR5, equipped with 20-inch gray-painted alloy wheels, heated power-folding side mirrors with a reverse tilt-down feature, and a tailgate release bump switch hidden in the driver’s side taillight.

As with the other trims, Double Cab models get a power horizontal sliding rear window, while CrewMax models have a vertical window that lowers into the cab body.

The Limited features an acoustic laminated windshield, more soft-touch materials throughout the cabin, SofTex synthetic leather upholstery, and heated and ventilated 8-way power front seats with 2-way lumbar support.

The Limited also features driver’s seat memory, a 60/40-split folding rear seat with a center armrest, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a leather-trimmed steering wheel and shift knob.

The Limited’s infotainment setup upgrades to a 14-inch touchscreen monitor, while the driver-assist systems gain a blind-spot monitor, rear cross-traffic detection, trailer merge warning, plus front and rear park assist with automatic braking.

Options beyond that of the SR5 include an enhanced TRD Off-Road Package with 20-inch wheels, a 12-speaker JBL audio system (CrewMax), and several Limited packages that add features like the Panoramic View Monitor, a wireless charging pad, 120-volt outlets, Trailer Backup Guide, rear air suspension, and a digital rearview mirror.

The Nightshade Package brings matte-black 20-inch alloy wheels, black overfenders, a black rear bumper, and gloss-black exterior moldings.

Limited Double Cab models offer a power sunroof, while Limited CrewMax buyers can spring for a panoramic sunroof.

With the $1,850 delivery charge, the 2024 Toyota Tundra Limited 4×2 Double Cab costs $53,705. On a 60-month loan at 5% financing and $0 down, the monthly payment comes to $1,013. See 2024 Toyota Tundra Limited models for sale near you

  • Reverse tilt-down mirrors – These mirrors automatically tilt down when the truck is placed in reverse, allowing drivers to see objects near the rear wheels.
  • Available panoramic sunroof – This massive roof is available only on the CrewMax. It can let in copious amounts of light or fresh air.

2024 Toyota Tundra Platinum: $61,775

The Platinum comes only in the CrewMax cab configuration with a 5.5- or 6.5-foot bed.

Building off the Limited, the Platinum adds 20-inch dark gray alloy wheels, premium LED headlights with auto-leveling adjustment, LED taillights with sequential turn signals, rain-sensing wipers, and two 120-volt outlets (cab and bed).

Platinum trims include a panoramic glass sunroof, rear door sunshades, ambient interior lighting, a Panoramic View Monitor, a wireless charging pad, a digital rearview mirror, and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.

Fine leather upholstery with premium contrast stitching comes standard, as do 10-way power-adjustable front seats with 4-way power lumbar support. The rear seats gain heat and ventilation, while the driver enjoys a power tilt/telescoping leather-trimmed heated steering wheel.

A 14-inch infotainment touchscreen joins the 12-speaker JBL audio system.
