The 2024 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport takes a page from luxury brands like Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, and Audi. Sharing its platform with the standard Atlas SUV, the Atlas Cross Sport sacrifices its sibling’s third-row seat and some cargo space to gain a sleeker, coupe-like appearance.
With seating for five, the Atlas Cross Sport is a roomy and comfortable SUV, and it’s the only European SUV offered to U.S. consumers that doesn’t carry a luxury brand name or price tag.
For 2024, the Atlas Cross Sport sees several improvements, including a new engine, new standard features, and revised styling both inside and out. Available in five trims, the Atlas Cross Sport is competitive against a wide range of rivals, including the Ford Edge, Nissan Murano, Honda Passport, Chevrolet Blazer, and Hyundai Santa Fe.
All Atlas Cross Sport models derive power from a 269-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive comes standard on the SE trims, with the option to upgrade to 4Motion all-wheel drive (AWD), which is standard on the SEL trims.

2024 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport SE: $36,715 (FWD), $38,615 (AWD)
Considering its status as the entry-level trim, we’re mightily impressed by the SE’s feature-rich standard equipment list. For those not interested in premium audio systems, big sunroofs, or additional driver aids, the base SE may be all you need.
Beginning with the IQ.Drive suite of standard driver assists, the SE features a forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking (with pedestrian and cyclist detection), lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, a blind-spot monitor, and rear cross-traffic detection.
But wait, there’s more. Adaptive cruise control with stop & go can bring the vehicle to a complete stop and resume travel once traffic begins to move. All the while, Travel Assist automatically keeps the Atlas Cross Sport centered in its lane.
Along with all mandated airbag and safety systems, the Atlas Cross Sport includes a rear seat reminder (reminds the driver to check the back seat before exiting the vehicle), a system that alerts rear occupants to buckle up, and another that warns when it’s not safe to exit the vehicle.
The SE comes with adaptive LED headlights that point light in the direction of the steering wheel, cornering lights, and a “coming home/leaving home” feature that activates the headlights when making your way to or from the car.
Exterior features include heated side mirrors, rain-sensing wipers, 18-inch 5-spoke two-tone alloy wheels, roof rails, and remote keyless entry with proximity key fob. A proximity key fob lets you unlock the doors simply by touching the handles, provided the fob is tucked into a purse or pocket.
The SE’s standard feature set gets even better once you peer inside. The handsome cabin gets new materials this year, with more soft-touch surfaces. It also gains heated and cooling front seats, a heated steering wheel with paddle shifters, and dual-zone automatic climate control.
Additional interior amenities include a tilt/telescoping steering wheel, a 10-way power driver’s seat with power lumbar support, V-Tex simulated leather upholstery, a wireless charge pad, and 45-watt USB-C charge ports in both rows.
The Digital Cockpit Pro 10.25-inch reconfigurable digital instrument cluster is directly in front of the driver; you’ll find an even larger 12-inch infotainment touchscreen to its right. Standard features include a 6-speaker AM/FM/HD Radio receiver, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM 360L satellite radio, a Wi-Fi hot spot, Bluetooth, and VW Car-Net apps.
The only option is the 4Motion all-wheel drive AWD, which includes hill-descent control.

Technology advances include a hands-free power liftgate, remote start, and front and rear parking sensors.
Enhancements to the exterior see front and rear light bars, 20-inch alloy wheels, and a factory-installed trailer hitch rated at 5,000 pounds.
The SE with Technology upgrades include a 115-volt outlet, rear window sunshades, additional LED lighting in the floor wells and front doors, and two more USB-C charge ports — one in the console and one behind the rearview mirror.
The Black Wheel Package adds 20-inch black alloy wheels. A panoramic sunroof is the only other option.

Building off the SE with Technology, the Cross Sport SEL adds driver’s seat and side mirror memory settings, an 8-way power passenger seat, a panoramic sunroof, a passenger-side exterior mirror that tilts down while backing up, and dual-projector LED headlights. Also included is a head-up display, heated washer nozzles, and illuminated door pockets.
The infotainment system gains GPS navigation, while the rest of the interior gets heated second-row seats, perforated Vienna leather upholstery, and 30-color ambient lighting.
The SEL adds more driver-assist features, including automatic high beams, traffic sign recognition, and predictive adaptive cruise control that uses the navigation system to anticipate upcoming hills or sharp curves and adjust the car’s speed.
