The 2024 Volvo S60 is a smallish midsize luxury sedan that competes with the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, and the Genesis G70. More focused on luxury and safety than sporty performance, the S60 still delivers an engaging experience for the driver. We also argue that the S60 has some of the comfiest seats in the industry. Safety is underscored by the S60’s perfect score of Good across all six of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s crash and safety tests.
Volvo presents the 2024 S60 in three trims, each offering a choice of two powertrains. The B5 is a 247-horsepower mild-hybrid turbocharged 4-cylinder, and the T8 is a 455-hp plug-in hybrid (PHEV) with a supercharged and turbocharged 4-cylinder internal combustion engine mated with an electric motor. You can easily identify the PHEV by the designation “Recharge” in its nameplate. Front-wheel drive is standard in the Core and Plus grades; all-wheel drive is available as a $2,300 option. The top Ultimate trim only comes with all-wheel drive regardless of powertrain.
The S60 has an EPA combined fuel economy of 30 mpg with the mild-hybrid turbocharged engine and front-wheel drive. This drops to 28 mpg with all-wheel drive. The S60 PHEV has 41 miles of pure-electric range. That drops to 31 mpg when operating on gasoline and electricity.
What’s New:
Volvo has jettisoned the higher-performance S60 Polestar model for 2024. It also did away with the front-wheel-drive Ultimate version.
Our Recommendation:
In the bang for your buck department, get the S60 Plus. However, there’s not much daylight between the price of the entry-level Core trim and the range-topping Ultimate trim regardless of the powertrain. Consequently, this makes the Ultimate a solid choice if you need all-wheel drive (and will appreciate the better audio system and the head-up display).

2024 Volvo S60 Core: $42,000
The Volvo S60 Core is well-appointed for an entry-level model, especially with regard to safety. Standard safety features abound. They include blind-spot monitoring, steering assist, cross-traffic alert, automatic emergency braking, a driver alertness monitor, and lane-departure warning with lane-keeping aid. You also get road departure mitigation, a whiplash prevention system, a slippery road alert, and a collision warning system that can detect vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists, and even large animals.
Other standard features include LED headlights and taillights, 18-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic moonroof, a Google-based infotainment system with Google Maps and Apple CarPlay, four USB-C ports, a 10-speaker audio system, and a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster. Additionally, you get automatic climate control, a memory driver’s seat, and your choice of leatherette or City Weave Textile upholstery. Also notable: The S60 Core’s headlights point their beams into corners, helping to illuminate the way through.
In addition to all-wheel drive, options on the 2024 Volvo S60 Core include 19-inch wheels and a Climate Package with heated seats, a heated steering wheel, and headlamp cleaners.

Other standard features are leather upholstery, a 360-degree surround-view camera with park assist, ambient interior lighting, power child locks, and power-folding rear headrests and backrests. A HomeLink universal transponder is also included to control your home’s garage door and lights.
Options are the same as for the Core trim. They include 19-inch wheels, the Climate Package, an air purifier, and a 14-speaker Harman Kardon premium audio system.
