2025 BMW 4 Series: Choosing the Right Trim

Think of the 2025 BMW 4 Series as a more personalized version of the popular 3 Series. Offered in coupe, convertible, and 4-door Gran Coupe, the 4 Series is slightly more exotic in looks and attitude, the perfect antidote to the Audi A5/S5, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Alfa Romeo Giulia, and Lexus RC.

What’s New:

Except for a 48-volt mild-hybrid system added to the 4- and 6-cylinder engines, most of the changes for 2025 are cosmetic. The BMW 4 Series coupe and convertible receive refreshed front ends and interiors, new headlights and taillights, a new steering wheel, and new wheel designs. All 4 Series cars receive BMW’s latest Operating System 8.5, which enhances the iDrive controls and curved display.

Our Recommendation:

If you’re shopping for a BMW, budgets don’t usually come into play. The 430i is a lovely way to get around, especially in convertible form, but the M440i is the trim that perfectly fits luxury and all-out performance.

These are the manufacturer’s suggested retail prices (MSRP) and include the $995 factory-to-dealer delivery fee (destination charge). Prices are current at the time of publishing.

2025 BMW 430i: $51,695 (Coupe), $59,695 (Convertible)

The 2025 BMW 430i derives 255 hp from a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine hooked to an 8-speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode. Sorry, driving enthusiasts, the BMW 4 Series doesn’t offer a manual transmission until you get to the pricey M4 version.

Along with launch control, the 430i features different driving modes that control steering feel, shift points, and throttle response.

The 430i routes power to its rear wheels, but buyers can opt for the 430i xDrive, which adds all-wheel drive (AWD) and another $2,000 to the bottom line.

Standard features include 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped in all-season run-flat tires, auto on/off LED headlights, power-folding and heated side mirrors, an auto-dimming driver’s mirror, and rain-sensing wipers with automatic headlight control.

If you order the coupe, you’ll get a power-operated moonroof, while the convertible gets an insulated power-retractable soft-top.

On the safety and driver-assist front, the 430i includes forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, a blind-spot monitor, automatic high-beam headlights, and speed limit info.

Also standard are front and rear parking sensors, a rearview monitor, and a tire pressure monitor.

The interior of this BMW impresses with standard sport seats with 2-way power bolsters, driver’s seat memory, SensaTec imitation leather upholstery, cruise control, multizone climate control, and a tilt/telescoping leather-wrapped sport steering wheel with paddle shifters.

Multicolor adjustable ambient lighting is a nice touch, as is a memory key fob that recalls user settings for the radio, driver’s seat, mirror position, and climate control.

The 4 Series’ massive curved display contains a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch digital information display. The iDrive 8.5 operating system allows control via voice, touchscreen, or the iDrive touchpad controller.

The system includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SiriusXM 360L, cloud-based navigation with over-the-air updates, and BMW’s Connected Package Pro, which features real-time traffic and parking information, stolen vehicle recovery, and a voice-activated personal assistant.

Your favorite music flows through a 205-watt amplifier and 10-speaker sound system.

The 430i offers several optional features and packages, such as a heated steering wheel, a drive recorder, Icon adaptive LED headlights with laser light taillights, and a Harman Kardon surround sound system.

Buyers can upgrade to larger wheels, Vernasca leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, and M Sport exterior styling.

The Convenience Package ($750) adds the Comfort Access keyless entry system (which allows unlocking the doors without removing the fob from your pocket), a wireless charging pad, and power lumbar support.

The Premium Package ($1,750) adds heated front seats, driver’s seat 4-way power lumbar support, a heated steering wheel, a head-up display, a wireless charging pad, and the Comfort Access key fob.

The Driving Assistance Professional Package ($1,700) adds adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assistance (which helps keep the vehicle centered between lane markers), lane change assistant, front cross-traffic detection, and Traffic Jam Assistant, which provides partially automated steering on certain highways speeds below 40 mph.

The Parking Assistance Package ($700) adds a 360-degree monitor, reverse automatic emergency braking, and a parking assistant that can automatically parallel or perpendicular park the car.

The Dynamic Handling Package ($1,950) adds 19-inch alloy wheels, M Sport brakes with red or blue calipers, an M Sport differential, and an Adaptive M suspension.

2025 BMW M4: $80,095 (Coupe), $84,195 (Competition Coupe), $89,295 (Competition xDrive Coupe), $96,295 (Competition xDrive Convertible)

The 2024 BMW M4 brings legendary M performance to the BMW 4 Series and even more so to the M4 Competition Coupe and Convertible, which offer the option of xDrive AWD (standard on the convertible).

The M fun starts under the hood, where a 473-hp turbocharged 3.0-liter 6-cylinder engine hooks up to a 6-speed manual transmission.

In the Competition cars, horsepower jumps to 503, and the manual transmission gives way to a high-performance 8-speed automatic.

Upgrades include staggered 18- and 19-inch wheels, M sport seats, a track-ready cooling system, an M Sport differential, ventilated M Compound antilocking disc brakes, M power steering, and Adaptive M Suspension.

Further distinguishing the M from its lesser siblings is a sport exhaust with quad tailpipes, a carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic roof, aerodynamically styled double-arm side mirrors, and Shadowline exterior trim.

The M4’s cabin gains Merino leather upholstery, an anthracite headliner, and the Harman Kardon surround sound system.

Optional upgrades include the Parking Assistance Package ($700) and the M Drive Professional Package ($900), which adds M Track Mode, M Drift Analyzer, and the M Laptimer app for iPhone.

The Executive Package ($1,200) adds a power trunk, a head-up display, and a heated steering wheel.

FAQ

  • What kind of warranty comes with 2025 BMW 4 Series?

    The 4 Series has a 4-year/50,000-mile warranty.

  • How many miles per gallon does the 2025 BMW 4 Series get?

EPA figures are not yet out for the 2025 4 Series, but we imagine they won’t be far from last year’s figures, which for the rear-drive 430i come in at 25 mpg city/34 mpg highway. Adding AWD to the mix lowers figures to 23 mpg city/33 mpg highway.

With its added power, the M440i earns the same fuel economy as the 430i, although the xDrive AWD version sees those figures drop to 22 mpg city/32 mpg highway.

The M4 is rated at 16 mpg city/23 mpg highway.

  • Which 2025 BMW 4 Series trim level offers the most safety?

Neither the U.S. government nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has crash-tested the 4 Series. However, its siblings, the 3 and 5 Series sedans, perform admirably, leading us to conclude that the 4 Series will do similarly well.

We strongly recommend adding the Driving Assistance Professional Package, whichever model you choose.
