Honda’s smallest SUV, the 2025 HR-V, delivers on the promise of Honda quality and value in a pint-sized product. Although compact outside, the HR-V is surprisingly accommodating, with a roomy back seat and a versatile cargo hold.
Honda offers the HR-V in three flavors: LX, Sport, and EX-L. The front wheels drive all, but Honda’s excellent Real Time All-Wheel Drive (AWD) is optional.
The HR-V is a gas-only prospect powered by a 158-horsepower 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine mated to a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). This setup means that, for now, Honda has nothing to compete with the hybrid Toyota Corolla Cross or Kia Niro. However, the HR-V stacks up nicely when placed next to the Kia Seltos, Chevrolet Trailblazer, and Mazda CX-30.
What’s New:
The 2025 Honda HR-V carries over with no significant changes.
Our Recommendation:
The Honda HR-V Sport is the way to go if you’re looking for a distinctive ride at a reasonable price. It stands out and has a few more luxury and safety features everyone will want. However, the EX-L’s additional safety systems and luxury touches only add $2,000 to the bottom line, making it a desirable runner-up.
The manufacturer’s suggested retail prices (MSRP) include the $1,350 factory-to-dealer delivery fee (destination charge). Prices are current at the time of publishing.

2025 Honda HR-V LX: $26,450 (FWD), $27,950 (AWD)
Opting for an LX trim meant getting the bare-bones Honda treatment at a great price. That’s no longer the case, at least regarding the bare-bones part. The LX price is still great, making this the go-to trim for those who don’t need a lot of fancy upgrades.
The LX story starts with safety, or more precisely, the Honda Sensing suite of standard driver assist systems. Forward collision warning with pedestrian detection is a welcome feature, as are automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow.
Traffic Jam Assist combines lane-keeping with adaptive cruise control, allowing the HR-V to steer, brake, and accelerate in low-speed bumper-to-bumper traffic. Traffic Sign Recognition posts an icon in the cluster detailing the posted speed limit. These features are uncommon in entry-level trims, and we applaud Honda for including them. However, if you want a blind-spot monitor or rear cross-traffic detection, you must move up to at least the Sport trim.
Automatic high-beam headlights, a rear-seat reminder, a multi-angle rearview camera, and rear-seat side-impact airbags are also unexpected in a base model but always welcome.
Standard Hill Descent Control maintains a low speed when descending steep hills, while Hill Start Assist keeps the HR-V from rolling forward or backward when stopped on a steep incline.
Moving to the exterior, we again find a roster of features uncommon on a base model. They include auto on/off LED headlights, a color-keyed rear spoiler, and a reverse-linked rear wiper that activates while backing up when the front wipers are turned on.
Additional exterior elements include power side mirrors, 17-inch silver-painted wheels, remote keyless entry, and LED taillights.
Peering inside the LX again surprises with automatic climate control, a push-button starter, and a tilt/telescoping steering wheel with integrated cruise, Bluetooth, and audio controls.
Handsome cloth-covered seats include a manually height-adjustable driver’s seat and a 60/40-split folding rear seat. Also standard is an auto up/down driver’s window, power door locks, and sliding sun visors with vanity mirrors.
A 7-inch driver information screen mimics an analog speedometer and tachometer. It can also be configured to provide a digital speedometer or information regarding the adaptive cruise control, Traffic Sign Recognition system, and other pertinent information.
The LX’s infotainment system comprises a 180-watt, 4-speaker audio system hooked to a 7-inch touchscreen. Wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard, along with HondaLink apps. You also get active noise cancellation to help quiet the cabin.
The system lacks the SiriusXM satellite radio option. The only trim that offers it is the most expensive EX-L. However, you can stream the service using CarPlay or Auto if you have the app on your phone.
Charging and connectivity come from three USB-A ports, with two charge ports in the center console and one charge/data port in the front console.

Automatic high-beam headlights – The LX automatically dims its high beams when sensing approaching cars. They also turn on automatically in low-light situations.
Adaptive cruise control – This advanced cruise control system maintains a safe distance from the vehicle ahead and can even work in low-speed stop-and-go traffic.
Automatic climate control – The LX’s climate system automatically holds the desired temperature without needing to fuss with knobs or buttons.
2025 Honda HR-V Sport: $28,550 (FWD), $30,050 (AWD)
The Sport trim adds more style and equipment to the HR-V.
Building on the LX, the Honda HR-V Sport features gloss-black heated side mirrors, 18-inch gloss-black wheels, a sport grille, a gloss-black rear spoiler, and dark-tinted rear privacy glass.
Honda’s Smart Entry keyless entry lets you unlock the doors by touching the inside of either front door handle. The doors automatically lock once the system detects you and the key fob have moved away from the vehicle.
A remote start feature built into the key fob comes standard.
Interior improvements on the 2025 Honda HR-V Sport include heated Sport front seats with orange stitching, orange stitching on the doors and center console trim, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, and auto up/down power front windows.
