Not to be mistaken for the larger and more expensive Land Rover Discovery, the Discovery Sport nonetheless carries on the tradition of combining exquisite British interior design with tenacious off-road capabilities.
The Discovery Sport is the most affordable Land Rover, although a slimmed-down trim range this year means a more expensive entry-level model, dubbed the S. The higher price also brings more standard content, features we think most Land Rover buyers would have ordered regardless. Upgrading to the Dynamic SE brings a sportier appearance and a few more features.
Although cramped, buyers can opt for a third-row seat, adding some extra practicality in a pinch.
Both Discovery Sport trims are motivated by a 246-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine routing power through a 9-speed automatic transmission. Standard all-wheel drive (AWD) provides exceptional traction on any surface.
Competitors in this price range include the Mercedes-Benz GLC, BMW X3, Lexus NX, and Genesis GV70.
Prices are current at the time of publishing and include the $1,175 destination fee.
What’s New:
The Discovery Sport lineup is reduced to two trims: S and Dynamic SE. New standard equipment includes a fixed panoramic glass roof, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a new interactive driver’s display, and front fog lights. Also included are adaptive cruise control, a blind-spot monitor, a power tilt/telescoping steering wheel, and a 3D surround view camera.
Both trims receive refreshed exterior styling and wheels to set them further apart, and other upgrades like an 11.4-inch infotainment touchscreen.
Our Recommendation:
Given the less than $5,000 price difference between the two trims, we’d opt for the Dynamic SE and add a few option packs.

2024 Land Rover Discovery Sport S: $50,075
As for the Discovery Sport’s off-road capability, it provides the Land Rover Terrain Response 2, a driver-selectable system with settings for Auto, Grass/Gravel/Snow, Mud, Sand, and Rock Crawl.
Engaging All Terrain Progress Control maintains a steady speed uphill, downhill, and across bumpy terrain. All the driver needs to concentrate on is steering. In other words, it’s off-road cruise control.
Other mechanical features include Roll Stability Control, Hill Descent Control, and Hill Launch Assist, which briefly holds the vehicle steady once the brake is released and you’re ready to head up a hill.
On the outside, the Discovery S features 18-inch alloy wheels, a body-colored roof with a fixed panoramic glass panel, rain-sensing wipers, a power tailgate, and power-folding heated side mirrors with memory and driver’s side auto-dimming features. Front and rear fog lights, auto-leveling LED headlights, proximity keyless entry with push-button start, and rear privacy glass are standard.
Moving to the interior of the S model reveals DuoLeather upholstery covering power-adjustable heated front seats with memory, a power tilt/telescoping heated steering wheel, one-touch up/down power windows, dual-zone automatic climate control, and ambient interior lighting.
A digital interactive driver display features configurable screens, while the infotainment setup has a new 11.4-inch touchscreen housing Land Rover’s Pivi Pro software. Contained within the system are SiriusXM satellite radio, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the Remote vehicle app (provides vehicle information and remote start capabilities), and navigation.
An 11-speaker Meridian audio system provides the sound, while device charging is accomplished via a 12-volt outlet, USB charge port, or a wireless charge pad.
The driver aids include forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and front-rear park assist. Newly standard are a blind-spot monitor, rear cross-traffic detection, automatic high-beam headlights, adaptive cruise control, driver alert warning, traffic sign recognition, and a 3D surround vision camera.
Land Rover offers several option packs, including the Third Row Pack that adds manual sliding second-row seats and a third-row seat with rear air vents. This increases this SUV’s seating capacity to seven. The Technology Pack provides a digital rearview mirror camera, a head-up display, and the Click and Go rear seatback storage system.
The Comfort Pack brings rear seat climate controls, configurable cabin lighting, and a cabin air purification system. The Cold Climate Pack adds a heated windshield, headlight washers, and a heated rear seat.
There’s also a Dynamic Handling Pack and a Tow Pack.
Individual options include upgraded wheels, interior fabrics, and paint colors.
Adding the $1,175 destination fee to the S base price brings the total to $50,075. If you put $0 down and finance for 60 months at 5% interest, it works out to about $945 per month. See 2024 Land Rover Discovery Sport S models for sale near you
