The 2024 Toyota Corolla Hybrid may be the most logical small sedan on the planet. It shares its styling and features with the standard Corolla sedan, already a great value. It then adds an efficient hybrid powertrain, which translates to an impressive 50 mpg in the city.
On LE, SE, and Nightshade trims, the Corolla Hybrid also offers the option of all-wheel drive, which hurts the overall fuel efficiency a bit but provides superior traction in foul winter weather.
However, we think the Corolla Hybrid’s best feature is its price, which on the LE and SE trim is only about $1,500 more than their gas-only counterparts and nearly identical for the top XLE versus the non-hybrid XSE.
All Corolla Hybrid trims use the same 1.8-liter gas engine and electric motor setup generating 138 horsepower, with AWD models adding a second electric motor at the rear wheels. That’s less power than the non-hybrid Corolla, so you might consider switching if performance is more important than fuel economy.
The Corolla Hybrid isn’t your only option. Better better-equipped competitors include the Hyundai Elantra Hybrid, Kia Niro, and even its stablemate, the Toyota Prius.

Our Recommendation:
If you live where snow and ice are routine, we’d go with the Corolla Hybrid LE AWD and add the blind-spot monitor and rear cross-traffic detection options. The front-drive LE is equally equipped and saves you some money if you don’t need AWD.

2024 Toyota Corolla Hybrid LE: $23,300 (FWD), $24,700 (AWD)
As the entry-level trim, the LE is curiously well-equipped, offering most of the same optional equipment as its more stylish sibling, the SE. The LE is probably the better choice for those who favor value over appearance.
Standard features for the LE include 16-inch steel wheels with full covers, LED headlights with daytime running lights (DRLs), LED taillights, remote keyless entry, power side mirrors, and variable intermittent wipers.
Toyota’s Safety Sense 3.0 driver-assist suite brings forward collision warning with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane-departure warning with steering assist, adaptive cruise control, automatic high-beam headlights, lane centering, and road sign recognition.
Features like a blind-spot monitor and rear cross-traffic alert are missing from the list but are available when opting for one of the LE’s two optional equipment packages.
Additional features aimed at making the trip a bit safer are 10 airbags, including front and rear-seat side-impact airbags, a tire pressure monitoring system, a rear backup camera, and Hill Start Assist that keeps the Corolla Hybrid from rolling backward when stopped on an incline.
Moving to the LE’s cabin reveals cloth upholstery covering manually adjustable front seats and a height-adjustable driver’s seat.
LE occupants enjoy one-touch up/down power windows, single-zone automatic climate control, a 60/40-split folding rear seat with folding armrest and integrated cup holders, four USB-C ports (two in front and two in back), and a rear window defroster.
The tilt/telescoping steering wheel includes buttons for the cruise, audio, and Bluetooth.
The LE’s infotainment setup features an 8-inch touchscreen, 6-speaker AM/FM radio, SiriusXM satellite radio, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Toyota Connected Services are also available, offering features like remote start, emergency assistance, lost vehicle locator, and a Wi-Fi hot spot.

The Nightshade comes with heated side mirrors, sport seats with sport fabric inserts, and three paint choices: Midnight Black, Ice Cap, or Classic Silver.
Options for the Nightshade include the SE Convenience Package and a 9-speaker JBL audio system, including an amplifier and subwoofer.

Building off the SE, the Corolla Hybrid XLE adds a blind-spot monitor, rear cross-traffic detection, 16-inch alloy wheels, and a power moonroof.
Up front, the driver gains an 8-way power seat with power lumbar support, and both driver and passenger enjoy heated seats. The XLE’s standard SofTex synthetic leather upholstery looks convincing and is easier to keep clean than cloth.
An upgraded 7-inch configurable gauge cluster with hybrid-specific meters is another XLE plus. A wireless charging pad completes the upgrades.
The only option is the JBL audio system.
