All-new for 2024, the Tacoma offers midsize pickup truck buyers a total of eight trims covering a range of prices and capabilities, but all with legendary Toyota reliability and resale value. Wider and longer than the previous generation, the 2024 Tacoma jettisons its V6 engine in favor of three variations of its turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. The base SR gets a 228-horsepower version, while the SR5, some TRD trims, and the Limited get a more powerful i-Force version of the same engine good for 278 horsepower (270 when equipped with the 6-speed manual transmission). The top-line TRD Pro and Trailhunter get a hybrid i-Force Max powertrain good for 326 horsepower and a class-leading 465 lb-ft of torque. Depending on the model, there are two cab sizes and two bed lengths. Lower trims ride on rear leaf springs, with others using a coil spring rear suspension.

The 2024 <a href="https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/toyota/tacoma">Toyota Tacoma</a> is all new. It includes new trims, features, and engines, including a hybrid powertrain with class-leading torque. There’s also a new Trailhunter trim designed for overlanding and rugged off-roading.


<a href="https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/new-cars/2024/toyota/tacoma/sr">2024 Toyota Tacoma SR</a>: The most affordable Tacoma is also the most basic, with a 228-horsepower engine, two cab sizes, and two bed lengths. Standard features include Toyota’s Safety Sense 3.0 driver assist suite, an 8-inch touchscreen hosting wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, a composite bedliner, and cloth upholstery covering manually adjustable front seats. Double Cab models have a Class IV tow hitch receiver and a 7/4-pin connector. At its core, the SR is a basic work truck, unafraid to get a few dents and scrapes. The SR has a max payload of 1,500 pounds and a max towing capacity of 3,500 pounds, making it ideal for light-duty jobs.

It builds off the SR, adding a more powerful 278-horsepower engine, alloy wheels, a deck rail system, and additional driver assists like a blind-spot monitor and rear cross-traffic alert. Double Cab models ditch the rear leaf springs for coils. The SR5 opens the door to numerous options, including a power sliding rear window, a heated steering wheel, a JBL audio system, and a digital rearview mirror. The SR5 appeals to those who need a basic truck but don’t want one stripped down to the bare bones. Its more powerful i-Force engine dramatically improves performance, upgrading towing to 6,500 pounds. Do-it-yourselfers will find the SR5 a suitable platform for aftermarket customization.

Offered only with rear-wheel drive, the PreRunner still looks the part of a rugged off-roader thanks to its standard lift kit, underbody fuel tank protection, dark gray alloy wheels, and TRD exterior styling. Notable upgrades include a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control, and driver’s seat two-way power lumbar control. The PreRunner aims to lure in buyers who like the look of a 4x4 pickup but don't need the function. Its added ride height, off-road wheels, and all-terrain tire package allow it to venture off-road, just not over terribly difficult terrain.

The TRD Sport features 18-inch wheels, a 12.3-inch digital dash, and a coil spring rear suspension. An extensive list of options includes a 120V/400W in-bed AC inverter, Trailer Backup Guide, a digital rearview mirror, heated and ventilated front seats, and a built-in air compressor. <a href="https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/toyota">Toyota</a> equips the TRD Sport with a TRD sport-tuned suspension, making it surprisingly agile on paved surfaces.

It provides most of Toyota's best off-road equipment, but not all standard. Offered only in Double Cab configuration but with the option of a 6-speed manual or 8-speed automatic transmission, the TRD Off-Road is designed for rugged adventures. Building off the TRD Sport’s standard and optional equipment, the TRD Off-Road adds skid plate protection for the gas tank and transfer case, Bilstein monotube shocks, 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires, Crawl Control, and Multi-Terrain Select. Available upgrades include the i-Force Max hybrid engine, a 3D Multi-Terrain Monitor, and a disconnecting front stabilizer bar. 

<a href="https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/new-cars/2024/toyota/tacoma/limited">2024 Toyota Tacoma Limited</a>: The Limited combines luxury and utility, creating a pickup better suited to towing a small horse trailer to the equestrian park rather than getting dirty in the desert. It comes in only one configuration: a Double Cab with a 5-foot bed. The Limited features almost every option as standard, including a power moonroof, power running boards, heated and ventilated front seats, JBL audio system, a bed-mounted AC inverter, panoramic view monitor, heated steering wheel, Digital Key, and a wireless charging pad. Among the few options are an adaptive variable suspension and the hybrid engine. 

2024 Toyota Tacoma Trailhunter: The Trailhunter builds off the TRD Off-Road, adding more aftermarket upgrades like an ARB steel bumper and modular sports bar, ARB high-mounted air intake, and Old Man Emu suspension. Standard equipment includes a disconnecting front sway bar, locking rear differential, and additional underbody protection. The Trailhunter is designed for rugged overlanding, a step above the TRD Off-Road but not quite at the level of the TRD Pro. It’s a unique design with its own identity.

Building on much of the Trailhunter’s standard equipment, the TRD Pro goes even further, adding adjustable SQ3 Internal Bypass shocks and segment-first IsoDynamic sport seats with upper and lower pressure gauges to help absorb shock.
