Coupes

The traditional definition is fairly simple: it's a car with two doors and a trunk. However, some car manufacturers especially luxury brands have been bending the definition of the word with 4-door coupes. A few examples of 4-door coupes are the Audi A7, the BMW X6 and the Volkswagen Arteon. These are technically sedans and sometimes even crossovers with coupe like styling in an attempt to mask the back doors.

Several coupes are mainstays in American performance cars like the Chevrolet Camaro and the Corvette and the Ford Mustang. Coupes can range in price and performance from the affordable Toyota 86 and the Mazda Miata, to the opulent Rolls Royce Wraith and the Aston Martin DB11 with a wide swath of coupes in between for just about every budget and every taste you can imagine

Pros and Cons

Pros:One of the most attractive features of a coupe is its sporty styling. Some coupes might look a little faster than they actually are, but there are also a lot that have the performance to back up their sporty aesthetics. Since coupes aren't as common as they used to be, driving a coupe can be a fun way to make your car stand out a little in traffic.

Coupes are usually designed to not only look cool but be fun to drive. Whether you're driving a light and agile coupe, like a Mazda Miata, or something with a lot more punch, like a Dodge Challenger Hellcat, coupes are usually fun to drive regardless of their horsepower rating.

Cons: If you want the cool look and fun performance of a coupe, you're going to need to sacrifice some practicality. Coupes don't always make good daily drivers for anyone who needs to carry passengers in the back seat with any regularity. If you have young kids, it's possible to put child seats in the back of a coupe, but it can be a pain for both the parents and the kids. For family hauling duty, nothing beats the kids having their own doors.

Coupes are usually rear-wheel drive which means many of them aren't ideal winter cars if you live in a snowy climate. Winter tires are always an option, but that's an extra cost you would need to factor into the ownership of your car if you want to safely drive it in winter. Luckily, this is being remedied by some coupes making all-wheel drive available like the Dodge Challenger GT and the Infiniti Q60.
