DeLoreanDeLorean Cars

Truly, one of the great stories of the American car industry is the story of the DeLorean Motor Company (DMC). Although it’s a great story, it, unfortunately, doesn’t have a happy ending. It was a totally new car company started in 1975 by John DeLorean who had previously been a big shot at GM where he had run Pontiac and Chevrolet and likely could have become the CEO of GM if he stuck around. Instead, he took a chance on the dream of his own car company which only comprised of one ill-fated model, the DMC-12 more commonly simply known as “DeLorean.” It was a sports car with a stainless steel body, gullwing doors, a futuristic aesthetic, and a rear-engine design. However, it wasn’t actually a very good performance car and it was too expensive to be a big seller. However, the DMC-12 found fame as the time machine in the Back to the Future series making the car an icon in its own right. The DeLorean might not be that great of a sports car due to its underwhelming engine, but to this day, it’s guaranteed to turn heads wherever it goes.
